Southern New Jersey Economics Forecasts July 17 at Rutgers Quarterly Business Outlook
A distinguished panel of industry leaders will forecast what they see ahead for the Southern New Jersey economy in the third quarter of 2007 at the Rutgers-Camden Quarterly Business Outlook, moderated by Rutgers University School of Business-Camden Dean Mitchell Koza, on Tuesday, July 17 th , 8 to 9:30 a.m., at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Cherry Hill.

Now in its 12 th year as an economic barometer for South Jersey, the free breakfast conference, sponsored by the Rutgers University School of Business-Camden, evaluates the region's health by examining key South Jersey industries. Four area executives will report on how their respective business sectors fared during the spring and will forecast the region's economic health for the coming quarter. Supported by the regional law firm Flaster/Greenberg and the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey, the conference is free of charge and open to the public.

The panelists (and their industries) include: Peter Spirgel, Esq. (legal services), managing shareholder, Flaster/Greenberg in Cherry Hill; Dr. Herb Taylor (economy), vice president and corporate secretary, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia in Philadelphia; Lorraine Kay (commercial construction), founder and CEO, Kay Construction in Mt. Laurel; and Anthony Sanzio (consumer goods/food), director, corporate communications, Campbell Soup Company in Camden.

Houston BP MS 150 Awards Team Gardere
Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, one of the Southwest’s largest law firms, was recognized by the Lone Star Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society on June 28th for their continuing contributions to the annual Houston BP MS 150 bike tour. This year, Team Gardere received the “Mission Possible” award and was applauded for having the highest average pledge for a team with more than 100 riders.

Team Gardere, sponsored by the Houston office of Gardere and comprised of attorneys, clients, family members and friends, cycled more than 180 miles in the two-day Houston-to-Austin bike tour. This year’s efforts netted nearly $180,000, bringing the Houston team’s overall total contributions to more than $650,000 throughout their six years of participation. Combined with the efforts of the firm’s Dallas team — The Gearheads — Gardere is nearing the one million dollar mark for MS research

The 23rd Annual 2007 BP MS 150 Bike Tour from Houston to Austin, Texas was held April 21 and 22 with 107 riders representing Team Gardere out of 13,000 total cyclists. Gardere’s ment with the MS Society began as a way to show support for one of their own, John involvePearson, a partner in the firm’s Houston office and former board chair for the Lone Star Chapter, who lives with MS and rides in several MS 150 events each year.

John Pearson Receives Top Fundraiser Award for the MS BP 150 Bike Ride
John Pearson, a Houston-based partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, is one of the highest fundraisers for this year’s BP MS 150 Houston-to-Austin Bike Tour. The National Multiple Sclerosis, Lone Star Chapter recognized Pearson as a top five fundraiser for this year’s Bike Tour, which has raised $12 million for the 17,000 Texans affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). Pearson, a part of the more than 100 member strong Team Gardere, personally raised more than $35,000 for this year’s event for MS research and programs.

Pearson, who was diagnosed with MS 14 years ago, was instrumental in the formation of Houston’s Team Gardere and a charter member of the firm’s Dallas team, The Gearheads. He is a former board chair for the Lone Star Chapter. Pearson actively fundraises and rides in several MS 150 events each year. Gardere’s overall fundraising efforts are paying off – the combined efforts of the firm’s Houston and Dallas teams have raised more than $800,000 over the last several years.

“It is thrilling for me to see attorneys, clients, friends of the firm and family all rally together each year for such a worthy cause that is so personal for me,” said Pearson. “To see our combined forces responsible for raising so much money for MS research and the care of MS patients is just amazing. I couldn’t be happier with the results.”
