Jones Day Wins #1 M&A Ranking for 27th Consecutive Quarter
In league tables published this month, Jones Day ranked #1 for number of deals worldwide, a position it has held for 27 consecutive quarters.

Jones Day led all law firms in Thomson Financial’s league table based on number of worldwide deals completed in the first half of 2007, with 277 transactions (98 more than the second place firm). It also captured the #1 position in Thomson's ranking of firms advising on deals with U.S. targets, with 159 completed deals.

In the Bloomberg league tables, which are based on announced transactions, Jones Day ranked #1 for number of deals worldwide and for number of deals in the U.S.

The Firm has maintained the #1 worldwide ranking for number of deals in both the Thomson and Bloomberg tables every quarter since year-end 2000.

The Mergerstat league tables, based on announced deals involving U.S. companies, ranked Jones Day #1 for number of deals in the first half. The Firm has held the #1 position for number of deals in the Mergerstat rankings for 17 straight quarters.

Hogan & Hartson Continues Expansion of Paris Office With Leading Tax Partner
Hogan & Hartson LLP announced today that James Vaudoyer will join its Paris office as a partner in the firm’s tax practice group. Vaudoyer, who has extensive experience in French and cross-border tax matters, will form an integral part of the tax practice in the Paris office.

Vaudoyer focuses his practice on the taxation of French and multinational corporations, particularly in the area of mergers and acquisitions, and the structuring of property acquisitions and developments projects. In addition, he has substantial experience advising on real estate and corporate investments by hedge funds.

Vaudoyer joins Hogan & Hartson from the Paris office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a member of the tax and real estate practice areas, and served as the managing partner of the Paris office of Freshfields from 1997 to 2000. Prior to joining Freshfields in 1988, Vaudoyer worked for eight years as a tax lawyer in major tax and law firms in Paris.

“We are delighted to welcome James to our Paris office, as Hogan & Hartson continues to expand the scope of our transactional capabilities in Paris,” said William J. Curtin, III, strategic development partner for the Paris office. “With his substantial experience advising clients on the tax aspects of M&A and real estate matters, James will be of great value to the firm’s French and multinational clients across a wide variety of transactions.”

Vaudoyer joins other recent high-profile additions to the Paris office, including Isabelle MacElhone, who heads up the firm’s M&A practice in the Paris office.

Vaudoyer studied law at the University of Paris, where he obtained a master’s degree in business law and a post-graduate degree in business and tax law.

Richard Liskov Returns to Chadbourne & Parke as Special Counsel
The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP announced today that Richard G. Liskov has rejoined the Firm as Special Counsel in the New York office. Mr. Liskov, who was Counsel at Chadbourne from 1992 to 1998, will draw on his legal and regulatory experience in the insurance industry in his role as a member of Chadbourne’s insurance and reinsurance practice.

“We are very pleased to welcome Richard back to Chadbourne. His strong background in both the public and private sectors deepens the bench strength Chadbourne offers clients in the insurance industry,” said Chadbourne Managing Partner Charles K. O’Neill.

Mr. Liskov, 57, joins Chadbourne from White & Case, where he was Of Counsel in the New York office, advising clients on insurance regulatory, transactional and litigation matters. Prior to that, he was Counsel at Chadbourne from 1992 to 1998. From 1989 to 1992, he was the Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel of the New York State Insurance Department. From 1980 to 1989, Mr. Liskov was New York’s Assistant Attorney General, focusing on matters involving the Insurance Department.

“I’m delighted to be working with Richard again,” said John Sarchio, co-head of Chadbourne’s insurance and reinsurance practice. “We previously worked together at Chadbourne and I’m glad to have him back on the team here.”

Mr. Liskov holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Brandeis University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fisk Stone Scholar.

Chadbourne’s insurance and reinsurance practice serves clients such as insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, financial institutions and governmental entities on all aspects of the property-casualty and life and health businesses. The practice achieved high rankings in a 2007 survey of law firms by Reactions, a London-based monthly magazine covering the global insurance and reinsurance industries.
