Partner Honored as One of Long Island’s Top 50 Women
Partner Maureen T. Liccione was named for the second time as one of Long Island’s 50 Top Women by the Long Island Business News. Maureen serves as special counsel to municipalities and districts throughout Long Island and represents private clients in land use, environmental, municipal and commercial matters, as well as in all phases of administrative and court litigation and appeals. Cozen O’Connor Attorney Justin B. Wineburgh Appointed to AMEC Law Firm Advisory Counsel
"Cozen O’Connor member Justin B. Wineburgh has been appointed to the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel’s (AMEC) Law Firm Advisory Board. AMEC is an organization dedicated to advancing the development of legal professionals in the media and entertainment industries by organizing and sponsoring programs that teach the skills necessary to excel in these fields. The Law Firm Advisory Board serves in a consultative capacity to AMEC and assists in planning programs in both Los Angeles and New York. The Law Firm Advisory Board also plays a key role in the nomination process for AMEC's annual Media & Entertainment Counsel of the Year Awards.

In announcing the selection, Kristin Holland, partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman, LLP and Chair of the Advisory Board, stated, ""Justin Wineburgh’s appointment comes at an ideal moment as AMEC is preparing a cutting edge seminar in New York on user generated content and will soon initiate the nomination process for the 2007 Counsel of the Year Awards. His experience in the representation of global entertainment clients will serve the Board and AMEC well."" Wineburgh stated, ""I am pleased to join the AMEC Law Firm Advisory Board. Wineburgh counsels clients in the entertainment industry in the U.S. and abroad. He represents clients in the film, television, music, new media and sports industries in complex tort, commercial, defamation, privacy, corporate, employment and intellectual property matters. Wineburgh has represented talent, writers, distributors, retailers, managers, agents, producers, music engineers, production companies and artists in a variety of matters, including litigation, contract negotiations, transactional matters and pre-litigation counseling, and has also served as production counsel for a number of independent films.

Wineburgh is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Florida Bar Associations, young lawyers' division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, sports and entertainment law section of The Florida Bar, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Philadelphia VIP and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. He is active in numerous civic organizations, serves as a mentor to law students and newly admitted attorneys, and regularly handles pro bono matters for a variety of organizations.

In 2006, Wineburgh was selected as a Pennsylvania “Lawyer on the Fast Track” by American Lawyer Media and was also selected as a Widener University School of Law Alumni Spotlight Honoree, an award given to four alumni of the law school each year. In addition, in 2007 Wineburgh was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Law and Politics, based on a survey mailed to more than 36,000 attorneys. He was ranked in the top 5% of Pennsylvania attorneys.

Wineburgh earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College (B.A., 1994) and his law degree from Widener University School of Law (J.D., 1997), where he was editor/administrative board member of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law, a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and a member of Phi Delta Phi, Harrington Inn, Honor Chapter. He served as a judicial intern to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and as a law clerk for the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania."

Peter Willcox-Jones Recipient of Michael E. Haglund Pro Bono Award
In the tradition of Michael Haglund, founder of the Volunteer Lawyers Project, the award is given annually to a young lawyer who displayed special commitment to pro bono services. Peter volunteers and recruits volunteers for the Neighborhood Legal Clinic. The clinic serves low-income clients with a wide range of legal issues

Greenberg Traurig Attorney Nikki Simon has been elected to the board of directors of the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association.

Simpson Thacher Represents Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation in Connection with $4.22 Billion Acquisition of Chaparral Steel Company
Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation agreed to acquire Chaparral Steel Company for $4.22 billion. Simpson Thacher represented Gerdau Ameristeel in the transaction, which will take the form of a merger.

Chaparral, headquartered in Midlothian, Texas, specializes in the production of structural steel products. It is the second largest producer of structural steel beams in North America.

Gerdau Ameristeel, which is 67 percent owned by our client Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau S.A., is the second largest mini-mill steel producer in North America. The company also operates scrap recycling facilities and specialty processing centers.

Gerdau, the majority shareholder in Gerdau Ameristeel, is the largest long steel producer in the Americas. It has over 35,000 employees and operations in 13 countries.

Closing of the transaction is subject to the approval of Chaparral’s stockholders and other customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. The merger is expected to close by the end of this calendar year.
