Krieg DeVault LLP Announces John R. Kirkwood Elected Chairman of the Advisory Board of Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy
The law firm of Krieg DeVault LLP, Indianapolis, Indiana, is pleased to announce that partner John R. Kirkwood has been elected Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

The Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy was established to address the societal needs for clean, affordable and renewable energy sources, improve the nation's energy security, and reduce global warming. Its primary mission is to promote research excellence in the area of renewable energy through collaborative efforts among faculty in the disciplines of engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, and environmental affairs. The center promotes renewable energy applications through teaching, learning, civic engagement, and synergistic partnerships with industry, government labs and local communities.

A graduate of Indiana University and the Indiana University School of Law, Mr. Kirkwood provides tax and securities advice to clients including cities, towns, colleges and universities, school and fire districts, investment banks, commercial banks, nonprofit organizations, real estate development firms and manufacturers. Additionally, Mr. Kirkwood represents various nationally recognized energy companies in the renewable fuels industry, as well as senior lenders, junior lenders and equity providers for project finance transactions in the renewable fuels industry. Mr. Kirkwood is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indiana State Bar Association and is the past Indiana chairperson for the American Bar Association Forum Committee on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law.

King & Spalding Announces Continued Growth With Charlotte Expansion
Continuing its rapid expansion, King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today that it is opening an office in Charlotte, North Carolina, its third new office in the last year and its eighth worldwide location.

The firm is immediately bringing on board four prominent partners and an associate from the Charlotte-based law firm of Kennedy Covington. Joining King & Spalding as partners in the Charlotte office are Jeff Brown, who will serve as office managing partner, George Covington, Cory Hohnbaum and Mark Thigpen. Wen Hutchinson is joining as a counsel.

In addition to litigation and real estate practices, the new office will also have corporate and finance practices.

"The timing is right to establish a significant presence in the region," said Robert D. Hays, Jr., chairman of King & Spalding. "Charlotte is the largest city within the nation's fifth largest urban region, the second largest financial center in the nation, behind only New York, and among the top five cities for Fortune 500 corporate headquarters. We have deep connections with the region. We look forward to serving the increasing needs of our clients here, developing new business in Charlotte and throughout the region, and becoming an active member of the Charlotte community."

King & Spalding’s latest expansion comes on the heels of its strong performance in 2006, which included a 13.2 percent increase in revenue and a 24.8 percent increase in net income. The firm also opened an office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in December 2006, and in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in April of this year. The firm, based on its 2006 performance, moved up two positions in the American Lawyer’s 2007 rankings of the top 100 U.S. law firms, to 36th place.

Jeff Brown is a highly regarded real estate lawyer, who focuses on real estate development and finance as well as land use and economic development matters. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and received a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.

George Covington is a well-known litigator specializing in the representation of financial institutions and handles major litigation in jurisdictions across the country. He is a graduate of Davidson College and earned a J.D. degree at the University of North Carolina School of Law.

Cory Hohnbaum is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on financial services litigation in jurisdictions throughout the country. He graduated from Westminster College and received a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.

Mark Thigpen, an experienced real estate lawyer, represents regional, super-regional and national real estate developers and equity investors in acquisition, financing, disposition, leasing, joint venture agreements, mixed-use development and equity placement. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College and received a J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Wen Hutchinson, a litigator, focuses his practice on securities, financial services and commercial litigation and has jury trial, appellate, and arbitration experience. He received a B.S. in Management and a J.D. degree from Washington & Lee University.

Attorney Eunice Austin Given Outstanding Service Award by VSB Young Lawyers Conference
Eunice Austin, a partner with the Virginia law firm of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore, received an Outstanding Service Award from the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference at the group’s annual meeting and luncheon on June 15th at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach.

The award honors Austin’s commitment to serving the legal profession through her involvement with the Young Lawyers Conference; she recently organized a statewide professional development conference on behalf of the organization. Austin was one of 17 lawyers in Virginia to receive the award.

“Eunice’s honor is well-deserved,” said G. Michael Pace Jr., Managing Partner of the firm. “She is a first-class attorney who is dedicated to her clients, her community and her profession. We couldn’t be prouder.”
Austin’s practice areas include professional liability, products liability and civil litigation. She is a native of Roanoke, Va., and received her undergraduate degree from University of Virginia and law degree from The College of William and Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law. She is an active member of the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley, and serves on the Board of Directors for Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) and North Cross School Alumni Association.

The Young Lawyers Conference (YLC) is an arm of the Virginia State Bar, the state agency charged with regulating lawyers licensed to practice in Virginia. The YLC is an organization through which young lawyers can participate in Virginia State Bar activities and serve the legal profession and the public. The YLC promotes high standards of professionalism and competence, improving the legal system, and improving the legal system's responsiveness to the public.

Markeisha Miner Honored by Wolverine Bar Association
Dickinson Wright attorney Markeisha Miner has received the 2007 Margrette Taylor Distinguished Young Lawyer Award from the Wolverine Bar Association. The award recognizes commitment to professional excellence and the betterment of the community through involvement in civic, community-based and professional organizations.

Miner is an Associate in Dickinson Wright's Detroit office. Her areas of practice emphasis include commercial and business litigation, product liability litigation, and schools and educational institutions.

Miner earned a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College, and a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan. During law school, she was executive editor of the Michigan Journal of Race and Law; a legal extern at the Commission on Gender Equality, Durban, South Africa; and a student attorney at the Legal Assistance for Urban Communities Clinic. She served as law clerk to the Honorable Anna Diggs Taylor, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, from 2002-2004.

Her professional and community involvement activities include membership in the State Bar of Michigan; the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan; the Wolverine Bar Association; the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter; the Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church; the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History; the Mount Holyoke Alumnae Club of Detroit; and the University of Michigan Alumni Association.

Miner was honored during the June 29 Wolverine Bar Association Annual President's Dinner. The Margrette Taylor Distinguished Young Lawyer Award recognizes an attorney who has fostered the legacy of the award's namesake, who died in 2000 in an auto accident.

Antitrust Attorneys Author Portfolio for Bureau of National Affairs
Several members of Kelley Drye’s Antitrust Practice Group, including Partner Bill MacLeod and Special Counsel John Delacourt, along with Associates Joe Price, Jason Levine, and Lee Istrail from the firm’s Washington, DC office, and Associates Elise Stull and Lisa Khandhar from the NY office, have authored the portfolio Trade Associations and the Antitrust Laws. The portfolio, which was published by the Bureau of National Affairs in May 2007, is a comprehensive legal reference that discusses how the antitrust laws apply to the business of trade associations and explores the latest legal developments.

Birmingham partner Ashley H. Hattaway was selected for the Birmingham Business Journal’s 23rd Annual Top 40 Under 40. Honorees were selected from the best and brightest rising stars in the Birmingham area who have made an impact in the business world and the community. Ashley, and the class of ‘07, will be honored at a luncheon on August 2 at the Wynfrey Hotel. The Top 40 Under 40 will also be featured in a special section of the Birmingham Business Journal on July 13.
