Jones Day Partner Appointed to Chair of Corporation Law Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association
Jones Day Partner David Porter (Cleveland) was appointed Chair of the Corporation Law Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association effective July 1. OSBA's Corporation Law Committee is the principal architect of Ohio's business entity statutes. David was Vice Chair of the Committee from 2005-2007 and chaired the Committee's Legislative Review Subcommittee from 2003-2007. In those roles he has led a number of legislative initiatives to update and improve Ohio's corporate statutes. Prior Jones Day Partners who have served as Committee Chair include Jeanne Rickert and the late Leigh Trevor.

Two Jones Day Partners Elected to State Bar of Texas Antitrust Council
Jones Day partners Thomas R. Jackson (Dallas) and J. Bruce McDonald (Houston/Washington) were elected to the Council of the State Bar of Texas’ Antitrust and Business Litigation Section at its annual meeting in San Antonio in June. Each will serve a three-year term.

Mr. Jackson joined Jones Day's Cleveland office upon graduating from Duke University Law School (Editorial Board, Law Journal; Order of the Coif) in 1979. He transferred to the Dallas office two years later. Over the years, Tom has been active in a number of antitrust matters and has served as Chair of the Dallas Bar Association Antitrust Committee.

Mr. McDonald joined Jones Day's Washington office after earning his J.D. from The University of Texas (Order of the Coif; Managing Editor, The Review of Litigation) in 1988. He served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division from 2003 until 2007.

Hogan & Hartson Lawyer Named Chair of Colorado Governor’s Regional Air Quality Council
Hogan & Hartson LLP announced today that partner Andy Spielman has been appointed the Chairman of the Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter.

Spielman, who serves as the head of the firm’s ski area management practice, will chair the RAQC, which is comprised of 11 members. Each member is appointed by the governor. The RAQC is responsible for developing effective and cost-efficient air quality planning initiatives with input from local governments, the private sector, stakeholder groups, and citizens of the Denver metropolitan region. As Chairman, Spielman’s primary task will be to oversee development of state implementation plans in compliance with federal air quality standards.

Grier Wells has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar, an eleven member committee commissioned to act on behalf of the Board of Governors between its meetings. The committee includes the President and the President-elect of The Florida Bar, the President of the Young Lawyers Division, three Board committee chairs, two Presidential appointments and three elected members.

Dykema Ranked In Top 100 Law Firms For Pro Bono Efforts
As a result of a survey of the nation’s 200 highest-grossing firms, Dykema has been ranked 93rd by The American Lawyer magazine for its pro bono efforts in 2006. Half of the score comes from the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer, while the remaining half is the percentage of lawyers who perform more than 20 hours of pro bono work.

"Our pro bono program has grown significantly over the past few years," said Rex E. Schlaybaugh, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dykema. "We believe that service to the community is critical and encourage our attorneys to continue to devote their time and energy to providing high-quality legal services to low-income individuals, public service organizations and charitable groups."
