Briggs Attorney Appointed Chair of MSBA Appellate Section
The Appellate Practice Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) has named Diane B. Bratvold as section chair for the 2007-2008 term. Bratvold is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association.

Bratvold has been a member of MSBA’s Appellate Practice Section for over three years. The section’s purpose is to focus on legal and policy issues related to both state and federal appellate practice, provide opportunities for continuing legal education on the latest developments in appellate matters, and serve as a forum for appellate attorneys (as well as those who handle only an occasional appeal).

Bratvold has practiced almost exclusively in civil appeals for more than 18 years. She also frequently consults or has been admitted pro hac vice for appellate matters in North Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa. She has handled many appeals involving a wide range of issues, including constitutional law, employment law, trust and probate matters, trade secrets, business contracts, insurance law, ERISA litigation, complex civil procedure, product liability and tort liability.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, director of the Eighth Circuit Bar Association, chair of the Program Committee and member of the Steering Committee of the Defense Research Institute’s (DRI) Appellate Advocacy Committee, and 8th Circuit editor of Certworthy. In addition, she has been appointed to the Amicus Curiae Committee of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association (MDLA). Most recently, Bratvold was invited by Minnesota Supreme Court Associate Justice Sam Hanson to be involved in an exploratory group formulated for the purpose of establishing the first Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society.

Bratvold was named a Top Appellate Lawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics. She received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School.

With 16,000 members, the MSBA is the state's largest and most influential voluntary organization of attorneys, providing continuing legal education and public service opportunities for lawyers, and assistance to the legal system
