Sidley Austin Elevates Lawyer to Partnership in Hong Kong, 36 throughout Firm
Charles Allen in the Hong Kong office of Sidley Austin is among the 36 associates and counsel elevated to partnership in the firm, which now has 659 partners in offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. Mr. Allen is a new partner in the Complex Commercial Litigation practice.

Charles Allen, 46, is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, as well as in England and Wales. Practising in Hong Kong since 1995, he conducts high value, complex commercial litigation and arbitration for clients throughout the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Mr. Allen, who had been a consultant, received his LL.B. from University College London.

Sidley Austin LLP Elevates Five to Partnership in Los Angeles, 36 throughout Firm
Five lawyers in the Los Angeles office of Sidley Austin LLP are among the 36 associates and counsel elevated to partnership in the firm, which now has 659 partners in offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. The new Los Angeles partners are Aimee M. Contreras-Camua, Real Estate; Sandra S. Fujiyama, Intellectual Property Litigation; Kelly L.C. Kriebs, M&A and Private Equity; Jennifer A. Ratner, Complex Commercial Litigation; and Robert M. Stone, Financial Services/Consumer Class Actions. All had been associates with the firm.

Aimee M. Contreras-Camua, 33, is a partner in the Real Estate practice. She practices in a broad spectrum of real estate law, including the representation of capital market institutions, banks and life insurance companies in the origination of mortgage-secured loans involving hotel, office, retail and mixed use properties located throughout the U.S. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Contreras-Camua served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Harry Pregerson, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Ms. Contreras-Camua received her J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of California-Los Angeles.

Sandra S. Fujiyama, 33, is a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice. Her practice focuses predominantly on complex patent litigation. She also provides intellectual property counseling to clients in the biotechnology and medical fields.

Ms. Fujiyama received her J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law where she was associate editor of the Pacific Basin Law Journal. She received her B.S. in Biochemistry, summa cum laude, from the University of California-Los Angeles.

Kelly L.C. Kriebs, 34, is a partner in the M&A and Private Equity practice. She practices in a broad range of corporate matters, including public and private company mergers, acquisitions and recapitalizations, corporate governance and other transactions.

Ms. Kriebs received her J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law where she was on the UCLA Law Review. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of California-Riverside where she was a University of California Regents Scholar.

Jennifer A. Ratner, 34, is a partner in the Complex Commercial Litigation practice. She has extensive experience in all areas of state and federal litigation and arbitration forums representing numerous corporations in connection with claims often brought as class actions regarding unfair business practices, consumer fraud, breach of contract, copyright issues, enforceability of contractual provisions and misappropriation of trade secrets. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Ratner was an Extern to the Honorable Spencer Williams, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Ms. Ratner received her J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law. She received her B.S., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Tufts University.

Robert M. Stone, 34, is a partner in the Financial Services/Consumer Class Actions practice. Mr. Stone has represented several financial services institutions and other major corporations in state and nationwide class actions involving such issues as credit card processing, money transfers and banking and other financial services. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stone served as a clerk to the Honorable Edward Rafeedie, Central District of California.

Three lawyers in the London office of Sidley Austin (UK) LLP, Jonathan Edge, Theresa D. Kradjian and Paul Matthews, are among the 36 associates and counsel elected to partnership in the firm, which now has 659 partners in offices of its affiliated partnerships in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia.

"We are delighted that Jonathan, Paul and Theresa have joined the London partnership,” added Drew Scott, managing partner of the London office. “Whilst lateral partner recruitment remains very important for us, we are proud that 24 of our total 41 partners in London, including each of Jonathan, Paul and Theresa, were appointed from amongst our associates."

Jonathan Edge, 39, is a partner in the Structured Finance and Securitisation practice, focusing on structured finance and derivatives work. He represents issuers, underwriters, portfolio managers and trustees in a variety of transactions, including collateralised debt obligation transactions (CBOs and CLOs), structured investment vehicle transactions (SIVs), asset-backed CP conduit transactions, RMBS transactions, repackagings, credit-linked notes, synthetic securities, warehousings, accumulation swaps and hedging transactions.

Mr. Edge, who had been an associate, received his B.A. from the University of Birmingham. He is an English Solicitor.

Theresa D. Kradjian, 35, is a partner in the Structured Finance and Securitisation practice. Ms. Kradjian's practice is focused on a broad range of mortgage-backed and asset-backed securitisation and structured finance transactions with particular concentration on covered bond transactions for U.S. and UK issuers. In addition to her considerable work on covered bond transactions, she has worked on collateralised debt obligation and repurchase finance transactions as well as SEC registered mortgage securitisation programs for UK issuers and underwriters. Prior to joining the London office in June 2003, Ms. Kradjian worked in Sidley’s New York office.

Ms. Kradjian, who had been an associate, received her LL.B. from the London School of Economics and her LL.M. from Harvard Law School.

Paul Matthews, 36, is a partner in the Structured Finance and Securitisation practice. Mr. Matthews has experience in a variety of structured finance transactions including collateralised debt obligation, asset-backed commercial paper and structured investment vehicle transactions. Mr. Matthews' practice focuses on repos and derivatives and, in particular, on credit derivatives. He has been active in the credit derivatives market, advising portfolio managers and monoline insurance companies, and in the synthetic securitisation market, advising portfolio managers, underwriters and investors.

Mr. Matthews, who had been an associate, received his B.A. (Hons) in Law from the University of Sheffield. He is an English Solicitor.

Ms. Barzilai, who had been counsel, received her LL.M. from New York University School of Law, her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her B.A. from Wellesley College.

Madeleine J. Dowling, 40, is a partner in the Securities and Futures Regulatory practice. She represents investment banks, broker-dealers and hedge funds in connection with a variety of regulatory, enforcement and compliance matters, including the formation and registration of broker-dealers, the creation and restructuring of major business units and the drafting of compliance procedures for both institutional and retail clients.

Ms. Dowling, who had been an associate, received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and her B.A. from St. Lawrence University.

Lynn A. Dummett, 47, is a partner in the Complex Commercial Litigation practice. Ms. Dummett’s practice focuses on complex business and regulatory litigation, and representation of institutions and individuals in federal securities investigations and litigation and internal investigations. Previously, Ms. Dummett was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, representing the United States in numerous affirmative and defensive civil matters, including Title VII, False Claims Act, contract and tort actions.

Ms. Dummett, who had been counsel, received her J.D. from New York University School of Law and her B.A. from Wellesley College.

Isaac S. Greaney, 33, is a partner in the Complex Commercial Litigation practice. His practice involves the representation of financial institutions, corporations and officers and directors in disputes arising out of the issuance and underwriting of debt, equity and asset-backed securities, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, lender-debtor relationships, trademark infringement and a variety of other commercial and contractual relationships. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas J. Meskill of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Greaney, who had been an associate, received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law where he was an editor for the Fordham Urban Law Journal. He received his B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Joseph Kelly, 35, is a partner in the Structured Finance and Securitization practice. Mr. Kelly’s practice focuses on the representation of issuers and underwriters in public and private residential and commercial mortgage-backed securitizations.

Mr. Kelly, who had been an associate, received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He received his A.B., cum laude, from Dartmouth College.

Dennis M. Manfredi, 33, is a partner in the Insurance practice. He represents insurance companies, financial institutions, investors and insurance regulators in a variety of transactional matters relating to the insurance industry, including insurance securitizations and structured finance solutions, traditional and non-traditional insurance company mergers and acquisitions, acquisitions and dispositions of blocks of insurance business, capital markets financings, complex reinsurance arrangements and other financial transactions.
