JMBM Plays Key Role In Hollywood's Largest Project
Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro LLP (JMBM), one of California’s foremost full-service law firms, today announced that it successfully completed all zoning and land use entitlements for what is considered to be the most ambitious mixed-use development in the current revitalization of Los Angeles' historic Hollywood district—BLVD6200. Led by land use attorneys Benjamin M. Reznik and John M. Bowman, JMBM represented its client, The Clarett Group, throughout the entire process.

"This project brings one of New York's finest real estate developers to Los Angeles for the first time to breathe new life into one of the most legendary boulevards in the world," said Reznik, who brings 30 years of government land use legal experience to the project. "It's a privilege to work with the caliber of professionalism The Clarett Group offers. Their extensive mixed-use development knowledge in conjunction with JMBM's team approach allowed a project of this magnitude to come to fruition."

Supported by Hollywood businesses, homeowner associations, and neighborhood councils, The Clarett Group proved to have the community behind its project which boasts more than 1,000 apartment units, 2700 underground parking spaces, and 175,000 square feet of retail space. Located across the street from the new W Hotel & Residences site (the $800 million project which JMBM Global Hospitality Group® client HSH Nordbank AG partially financed), BLVD6200 is scheduled for construction early in 2008 and is expected to be completed within four years.

"This project required a unique legal team, which included John Bowman, who has fifteen years of experience as a Los Angeles city planner, and Sheri Bonstelle, who was a New York architect before joining the Firm," continued Reznik. "They brought the ideal expertise to compliment a New York-based client involved in a Los Angeles land use and zoning project."

BLVD6200 will be a dynamic mixed-use community complete with street-level restaurants and shops, situated on seven acres of land owned by the well-known Nederlander Organization, which also owns the neighboring Pantages Theatre as well as concert halls, amphitheatres, and theatrical venues throughout the United States and abroad.

WilmerHale Adds Experienced Corporate Lawyer to New York Office
WilmerHale is pleased to announce the arrival of Michael O’Brien as its newest partner. Mr. O’Brien joins the firm’s Corporate Department in the New York office where he will focus on M&A and private equity transactions.

Mr. O’Brien joins the firm from King & Spalding LLP, where he was Managing Partner of the New York office since 2003 and a partner in the Corporate Department since 2001. He was responsible for overall operations of the office, including key client development and growth strategy. Previously, Mr. O’Brien was a partner with O’Sullivan Graev & Karabell LLP and an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.

Mr. O’Brien has counseled private equity firms on investment transactions for over 20 years and has represented clients in complex M&A transactions, including in 2007 the representation of Caremark Rx, Inc., in the $26 billion merger with CVS Corporation and Wellsford Real Properties, Inc. in the merger with REIS, Inc.

“Mike’s vast M&A and private equity experience will play a significant role as we continue to deepen our corporate practice in New York. His leadership qualities and deep knowledge of the New York market will benefit our clients and the firm as we plan for further growth in New York,” said William Lee, co-managing partner of WilmerHale.

Mr. O'Brien is the second partner to join WilmerHale's corporate practice in its New York office in 2007. Brian Margolis joined the firm in early May and has a broad background in public offerings, private placements, M&A, and corporate governance issues. WilmerHale continues to look toward deepening all of its practice areas in New York with a specific focus on securities regulation and enforcement, intellectual property, patent and trademark litigation, trial and appellate litigation, white collar defense, corporate, bankruptcy and financial institutions.

WilmerHale’s Corporate Department is widely known for its representation of technology and life sciences companies in the US and Europe. The firm has handled more IPOs from 1996-2006 for eastern US companies than any other law firm in the US. In the past five years, WilmerHale has served as issuers’ counsel or underwriters’ counsel in more than 250 public offerings and Rule 144A placements raising over $100 billion, including as issuer’s counsel in deals such as CIT Group’s $4.6 billion IPO, the fourth largest in history, and the IPO of Wolfson Microelectronics. Also during the past five years, WilmerHale’s Corporate Department acted as company counsel in more than 750 venture financings raising over $10 billion and advised on more than 800 M&A deals valued in excess of $400 billion.

“I am excited by the opportunities that come along with joining WilmerHale,” said Mr. O’Brien, “and I look forward to assisting in the development of its already strong capabilities.”

Mr. O’Brien is a member of the Board of Directors at Polytechnic University; the Lincoln Center Consolidated Corporate Fund’s Leadership Committee; and the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Highline (a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and reuse of the High Line—a 1.5 mile, elevated railway that runs along the West Side of Manhattan). He also served on the advisory committee at The Hetrick-Martin Institute; and was a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Aluminum Association.

White & Case Joined by Debt and Equity Capital Markets Partner in South Africa Push
White & Case has continued the growth of its finance capabilities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with the arrival of US Securities partner Gabor Molnar. Gabor will initially be based in London, before relocating to the Firm's Johannesburg office.

Gabor has extensive and broad-based US securities and debt and equity capital markets experience, primarily advising European and South African companies and private equity firms in accessing the international and US debt and equity capital markets. Most recently he has focused on representing private equity firms and their portfolio companies in South Africa in leveraged finance transactions involving offerings of high yield debt securities in the international capital markets. Gabor has also advised clients on securities offerings and cross-border business combination transactions regulated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as well as listings of debt and equity securities on various stock exchanges in the US and the European Union. Gabor also assisted companies in respect of ongoing SEC reporting and stock exchange listing requirements, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

"Last year the South African M&A market was dominated by private equity, Black Economic Empowerment and cross-border investment. With current growth rates forecast at 5-6% for the South African economy and general regional economic and political buoyancy, we expect continued growth in the South African market," commented White & Case partner Tanneke Heersche, head of the Firm's Johannesburg office.

Gabor's arrival is part of the Firm's ongoing strategy to expand both its US- and English-law banking and debt and equity capital markets capabilities across EMEA in order to provide cross-border coverage to clients. White & Case is one of the few international law firms to have an on-the-ground presence in South Africa. From the Johannesburg base he will continue to work closely with the London banking and debt and equity capital markets team, which supports the Firm's banking and debt and equity capital markets capabilities across EMEA.

"Gabor's arrival will enhance our hands-on support to clients in the South African and broader African market and will enable us to assist clients with their offshore financing needs," noted White & Case partner Rachel Hatfield, head of the Firm's High Yield Practice in London.

White & Case regularly advises clients across EMEA on international debt and equity capital markets transactions.
