Thirty-Nine Schnader attorneys have been named 2006 “Super Lawyers” by the publishers of Law & Politics and Super Lawyers for outstanding achievement in their respective practice areas; one of the thirty-nine was named by the publication as a 2006 “Rising Star.

Neil Cummings Named Contributing Editor of International Financial Law Review
Neil Cummings, a partner at Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with more than 650 lawyers in the United States and Europe, has been named a Contributing Editor of International Financial Law Review (IFLR), one of the world's top publications for in-house counsel and practitioners in the financial markets. Mr. Cummings was given the appointment for his legal expertise in banking and sophisticated financial transactions. One of only six lawyers from North America chosen, Mr. Cummings will serve on the editorial panel for one year beginning in September.

""We congratulate Neil on this appointment, which is a credit to his superb legal and writing skills,"" said Michael Woronoff, head of Proskauer's Corporate and Securities Practice in Los Angeles. ""IFLR is a prestigious publication, and this opportunity will expose Neil's expertise and knowledge to a global audience of sophisticated financial professionals.""

IFLR is read by a worldwide audience of nearly 16,750 financial lawyers at both firms and in-house. As a contributing editor, Mr. Cummings will be active in generating ideas for commissioned articles, columns, roundtables and forum topics for the publication. He will also write a quarterly column on a current topic or trend in the market, and will review articles from other authors. In addition, contributing editors provide ideas and feedback from the market to the IFLR staff.

Mr. Cummings is a member of Proskauer's Corporate Department and heads the Leveraged Finance Practice in the firm's Los Angeles office. His practice focuses on representing banks and other financial institutions, corporate borrowers and equity sponsors in leveraged finance transactions including acquisition financings, working capital loans and asset-based facilities. He has extensive experience in senior debt, subordinated debt, second lien loan, second lien bond, bridge loan and mezzanine loan financings. In 2006, Mr. Cummings was named as one of the ""Top 20 Lawyers under 40"" in California by The Daily Journal, and was recognized by Los Angeles Magazine in 2005 and 2006 as one of the ""Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars.

Best Lawyers in America Recognizes Gilbert Heintz & Randolph Attorneys

Leading Patent Litigation Attorney Bruce Wieder Joins Dow Lohnes PLLC
Dow Lohnes PLLC welcomes Bruce Wieder as a partner to its Media and Information Technologies practice group. Mr. Wieder will base his practice out of Dow Lohnes' Washington , DC office. His practice will focus on patent litigation at the trial and appellate levels as well as client counseling, patent licensing and settlement agreements.

Before joining Dow Lohnes, Mr. Wieder was a partner with Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, where he focused exclusively on intellectual property matters. He was also a law clerk to the Honorable S. Jay Plager, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Before undertaking his legal career, Mr. Wieder was an engineer in Motorola's Microprocessor Design Group. Additionally, since 1997, Mr. Wieder has taught at Georgetown University Law Center as an adjunct professor.

Mr. Wieder received his J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988 and earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1978 from Cornell University . He also earned an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Seven Partners Named "Super Lawyers
Partners Elliot Brown, Nick Gordon, Neil Rosini, Michael Rudell, Rose Schwartz and Ken Weinrib were honored as leaders in the entertainment law field, and John Vassallo as a leader in the family law field, in the inaugural issue of New York Super Lawyers/Manhattan Edition, published this month. According to the magazine, selection was based on an independent survey of 59,000 Manhattan lawyers who were asked to submit nominations. Following independent research, candidates then were divided into more than 55 practice areas and evaluated by a "blue ribbon panel of preeminent peers" in each area, with only 5% of Manhattan attorneys finally selected.

Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge Partners Elected to Chairs of New Jersey State Bar Association Section
Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP is pleased to recognize the election of our partner Barry J. Bendes as the Chair of the Business Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the appointment of our partner Martin Aron as Chair of the Section's Labor and Employment Committee.

The mission of the Business Law Section, which Mr. Bendes is to chair, is to advance the development of business law in New Jersey and to enhance the profession of the practice of business law. The section maintains ongoing relations with professional and business organizations throughout the state. The section also provides a forum for the sharing of ideas, advocates for business lawyers within the NJSBA and provides regular informational and education programs and publications for its members regarding developments in New Jersey and federal laws and regulations affecting for profit and nonprofit business organizations.

Aron, as Chair of the Labor & Employment Law Committee of the Business Law Section, will coordinate the section’s activities that address various areas of labor and employment law, including all aspects of the law relating to relationships between employees and employers. The committee will concentrate its efforts in the coming year on issues relating to the hiring, retention and loss of employment and the express and implied contractual relationships between individual and represented employees and their employers.

Bendes is resident in our Short Hills and New York City offices and concentrates his practice on domestic and international corporate and commercial transactions, financings, SEC-related matters and Internet and computer-related law matters. He advises startups, private and public companies and their owners, officers and both inside and outside directors; and venture capital and angel investors in commercial, business, securities and personal matters, including mergers, acquisitions, IPOs, PIPEs and other public and private debt and equity transactions, software and trademark licenses and cross boarder transactions. Bendes is a frequent lecturer on topics ranging from starting a new business, financing acquisitions and mergers, international sales, corporate compliance programs, buying and selling companies, what to do when a deal goes bad, international trade (buying and selling goods) and compensating executives and key employees.

Aron is Co-Chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Group and is based in our Short Hills office. He is an experienced trial attorney who litigates in state and federal courts, administrative agencies and arbitration forums for both unionized and non-union employers. Aron has successfully defended employers in cases involving claims of discrimination on the basis of age, sex, sexual harassment, race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation and disability. He is also experienced in handling claims that arise under various state and federal statutes involving diverse issues such as family medical leave, whistleblowing, wage and hour regulation, unlawful competition, violation of restrictive covenants and theft of trade secrets. He is a frequent lecturer on labor and employment issues and a Master of the Bench in the Sydney Reitman Labor & Employment Law Inn of Court. Aron is also certified as a Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR), a designation attained through the HR Certification Institute.
