Two Klarquist Sparkman Attorneys Named Top Lawyers by Portland Monthly Magazine
Kenneth S. Klarquist and James L. Leigh were named top intellectual property lawyers by Portland Monthly magazine. In its June 2006 issue, Portland Monthly presented a guide to the 250 best lawyers in the Portland metropolitan area, in 31 fields of practice, as chosen by their peers. “We are thrilled that Ken Klarquist and Jim Leigh have been recognized,” said Kristin Cleveland, managing partner of Klarquist Sparkman, LLP. “Both helped establish the practice of intellectual property in Portland, and both continue to make significant contributions.”

Mr. Klarquist has been an attorney at the Firm since 1951. During his tenure, Mr. Klarquist enjoyed an extensive patent and trademark practice, including litigation and the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in both mechanical and chemical engineering fields. Also an active community member, Mr. Klarquist served terms as President of the City Club of Portland and Chairman of the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Mr. Leigh joined the Firm in 1960. Mr. Leigh has practiced all phases of patent, trademark, and copyright law. He has extensive experience in litigating intellectual property disputes, in technology licensing, and in patent and trademark validity and infringement analyses. Mr. Leigh has been active in the Oregon State Bar, serving on its trial board and as trial counsel in disciplinary proceedings. He has been a member of the bar’s unauthorized practice of law and disciplinary rules committees. He has served on the professional responsibility committee for Multnomah County, as well as on the state professional responsibility board. Like Mr. Klarquist, Mr. Leigh has been active in the Portland City Club.

Klarquist Sparkman Attorney Named Washington Super Lawyer
Cindy L. Caditz was recognized by her peers as a Washington Super Lawyer for 2006. The list of Super Lawyers is published as a special section in the June edition of Washington Law & Politics magazine.

“We are extremely pleased to see Cindy Caditz on the list,” said David P. Petersen, senior partner. “Peer recognition arises from the commitment Cindy Caditz has to providing excellent representation to an outstanding group of clients.”

Ms. Caditz joined Klarquist Sparkman, LLP in 2006. Ms. Caditz engages in a full intellectual property transactional practice that includes contractual protection, licensing, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secret protection. Ms. Caditz evaluates trademark availability and registrability in the U.S. and throughout all foreign jurisdictions, and has been directly involved in trademark opposition practice, both domestically and in more than 60 countries around the world. Ms. Caditz’s practice includes all transactional aspects of trademark law such as licensing and related contractual agreements. Ms. Caditz brings particular expertise and experience in her counsel to clients and litigation in trademarks and the related areas of trade names, false advertising, and unfair competition.

Each year Washington Law & Politics surveys lawyers throughout Washington state and conducts additional research to identify lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only 5 percent of the lawyers in Washington are named Super Lawyers.
