Robert A. Walker joins Merchant & Gould, Atlanta
Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property and litigation law firm, announced that Robert Walker has joined its Atlanta office as an associate attorney. At Merchant & Gould, Walker practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution relating to electrical systems.

Formerly a manger of engineering with Snapping Shoals EMC, Walker implemented and managed electrical systems, software and hardware solutions for five departments. Mr. Walker has a Masters of Business Administration from the Georgia State University, Robinson College of Business, and earned his J.D. from the Georgia State University School of Law.

Mr. Walker is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and is a registered professional engineer with the State of Georgia.

Scott Weitzel joins Merchant & Gould, Denver
Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property and litigation law firm, announced that Scott Weitzel has joined its Denver office as an associate attorney. Mr. Weitzel practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution related to the computer sciences.

Mr. Weitzel's technical experience includes computer software and hardware, network hardware, storage devices and systems, wireless protocols, data center optimization, and mechanical devices. Mr. Weitzel has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Denver, Daniels College of Business, and earned his J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.

William E. Beaumont and Suzanne Ziska Ph.D. join Merchant & Gould, Washington, D.C.
Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property and litigation law firm, announced that Suzanne E. Ziska, PhD and William E. Beaumont have joined the firm's Washington, DC office.

William Beaumont joins the Washington DC office as a partner. He has more than 20 years experience counseling clients on IP matters related to biotechnology, organic chemistry, pharmaceutical and genetic engineering including drafting applications and prosecuting patents before the U.S. Patent and Trade Office (including appeals), and opinions on infringement and validity.

Beaumont is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Franklin Pierce Law Center. He holds a M.S. in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of South Florida, a J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center and an L.L.M. from George Washington, School of Law.

Suzanne Ziska joins Merchant & Gould as of counsel. Ziska specializes in patent portfolio management for biotech companies, life science companies, universities and research organizations. She has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to the areas of biotechnology, genetic engineering, immunology, genetically modified plants, vaccines, diagnostics, gene therapy, and cancer detection and treatments.

Previously, Ziska served as a primary patent examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in its biotechnology group and as a senior staff fellow at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. She holds a B.A. degree in Biology from Bucknell University, a Ph.D. in Biology from Georgetown University, and a J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

Firm Awarded Onondaga County Bar Association Pro Bono Service Award
For the second consecutive year, Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece, P.C. has won the Onondaga County Bar Association’s Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award. The Firm was recognized for its long time pro bono efforts which benefit both the legal profession and local community. Attorneys of the Firm volunteer their time on a monthly basis to support the Tel Law program at the offices of the Onondaga County Bar Association. Tel Law assists those individuals within Onondaga County who call the Bar Association for free legal advice. This is just one of the many ways in which the Firm’s attorneys participate in a wide variety of service and charitable organizations within the local community.

Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece, P.C. is pleased to announce that John V. Hartzell has joined the Firm's Watertown office as an Associate.
Mr. Hartzell joins the firm having just finished his sixth year as the Jefferson County Attorney. As County Attorney, Mr. Hartzell practiced in State and Federal Court in a wide variety of matters including defending tort claims, civil rights suits, and Article 78 proceedings, and was involved in extensive municipal transactional work, real property tax foreclosure, public employer relations, public works construction-related matters, appellate practice, ethics, collections, and building code enforcement.

Prior to pursuing a career in law, Mr. Hartzell served as Deputy County Administrator and County Administrator for Jefferson County over a period spanning 11 years.

Mr. Hartzell has held several professional appointments and designations including second vice president of the NYS County Attorney's Association, alternate delegate to the judicial nominating convention for the 5th judicial district, and associate membership in the City/County Managers Association.

Mr. Hartzell has volunteered with many community organizations, including the United Way, Jefferson Community College Foundation, Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization, Jefferson County Job Development Corporation, and Watertown Rotary Clubs. Mr. Hartzell grew up in Potsdam, and has made his home in Jefferson County for over 20 years. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast and novice distance runner.

Mr. Hartzell is a 1984 cum laude graduate of Clarkson University, and a 1998 magna cum laude graduate of Syracuse University College of Law. At Syracuse Mr. Hartzell received the American Bankruptcy Association medal of honor, was an editor on the Journal of Legislation and Policy, and was inducted into the Justinian Honor Society. He also undertook a legal externship with Hon. James C. Tormey, III, who is now the Chief Administrative Judge for the Fifth Judicial District.

Mr. Hartzell is admitted to practice in New York State Courts, as well as United States District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of New York. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association.

Jefferson County Young Lawyer of the Year 2006 - Bridget Fuselier
Bridget Fuselier was awarded the 2006 Young Lawyer of the Year by the Jefferson County Bar Association on May 5 at the Law Day Cermony. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Lamar University in 1994 and her J.D. from Baylor Law School in 1998, magna cum laude. While at Baylor Law, she was selected for the Order of Barristers and the National Order of Barristers. She was also the Assistant Managing Editor (1997) and Editor-in-Chief (1998) of the Baylor Law Review. Ms. Fuselier joined MehaffyWeber, P.C. in 1998 and practices in the areas of employment litigation, toxic tort, medical malpractice, and products liability. She has authored and published articles for the Baylor Law Review, Texas Lawyer, and Houston Bar Journal. She has also spoken at numerous seminars regarding labor and employment and medical malpractice issues. She is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas.
