Pender & Coward Welcomes New Attorneys
The Honorable J. Dale Bimson has joined the firm of Pender & Coward, of Counsel. Bimson is former City Attorney of the City of Virginia Beach, and served as Judge and Chief Judge of the Virginia Beach General District Court. He will practice in the areas of Public Administration, Municipal and Governmental Law, Land Use Planning, Mediation and Arbitration

A. Bartlett Keil formerly of The Keil Law Firm, PC has merged his practice with the Law Firm of Pender & Coward. Mr. Keil specializes in all areas of Family and Matrimonial Law, as well as complex property settlements, distributions and litigation.

David L. Arnold has joined the law firm of Pender & Coward, as counsel. He was formerly a principal in the Law Firm of Ornoff and Arnold. Mr. Arnold practices in the firm’s Business Affairs and Commercial Litigation sections.

New Hampshire Bar honors Emily Rice with highest award
Orr & Reno is proud to announce that Emily Rice, co-chair of the firm’s litigation practice group, received the Donald Dufresne Professionalism Award on Friday, June 23, at the New Hampshire Bar Association’s annual meeting. The Dufresne award is given to an attorney that best fits the following description: “A professional lawyer is an expert in law pursuing a learned art in service to clients and in the spirit of public service; and engaging in these pursuits as part of a common calling to promote justice and public good.”

Attorney Rice is presently a member of the mediation panels of the New Hampshire Superior Court, the United States District Court for New Hampshire, and the New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights and a member of the Judicial Branch “Committee on Alternate Dispute Resolution.

Deshpande Joins Murphy Desmond as Associate Attorney
Swapna Deshpande has joined Murphy Desmond as an associate attorney. Deshpande joined the firm as a law clerk in 2005. Her practice areas include bankruptcy and business law, in addition to some litigation. Prior to working at Murphy Desmond, Deshpande was a law clerk in the Office of Governor Jim Doyle. She also interned with Chief Justice Michael Nowakowksi of the Dane County Circuit Court and in the Division of Legal Services of the Wisconsin Department of Justice. She worked as a volunteer through the University of Wisconsin Law School's Unemployment Clinic. Deshpande earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Law in 2006. LaDawn Conway Appointed by the Texas State Bar President to the Standing Committee on Pattern Jury Charge-Business, Consumer & Employment
LaDawn Conway, a litigation shareholder in the Dallas office Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr, P.C., has been appointed to the State Bar of Texas Committee on Pattern Jury Charge – Business, Consumer and Employment. The purpose of this committee is to prepare and periodically revise pattern jury charges for common law and statutory claims encountered in consumer, insurance, business, commercial and employment litigation. The committee consists of judges, plaintiffs, and defense lawyers with demonstrated expertise in the various areas of practice under review.

The president of the State Bar Association selects appointees. LaDawn will serve on the committee until June 2009.

LaDawn’s practice at Munsch Hardt focuses on complex civil appeals and trial litigation support. She is Board Certified – Civil Appellate Law – Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and was named a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly in 2003, 2004, and 2005. As an appellate attorney, LaDawn’s practice varies widely in subject area. While her appeals typically involve contract disputes and business torts, she has handled a wide variety of matters implicating, among others, bankruptcy, ERISA, intellectual property, banking, oil and gas, and employment areas of the law.

LaDawn is involved at trial, providing litigation support through all stages of proceedings. She assists pretrial, preparing motions at the summary judgment, dismissal, and Daubert phases of a case, and during trial, with preservation of error and preparation of the jury charge. Her post-trial practice includes preparing findings of fact and conclusions of law, post-trial motions, and judgment formation analysis. She also assists in enforcement and suspending enforcement of the judgment pending appeal.

LaDawn earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Arlington, and her Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University where she graduated cum laude and was a member of the Order of the Coif. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Texas Bar Foundation. She serves on the board of directors for Hope Adoption and Empowering Women as Leaders. LaDawn is also admitted to the United States Supreme Court, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

gino p. gusmano elected to executive board of bar association
Gino P. Gusmano, an associate working in the general trial practice group of Moser & Marsalek, P.C., was elected on April 3, 2006 to serve a two-year term on the executive board of the Young Lawyer's Division (YLD) of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL). He was previously appointed to serve the YLD executive board to fill a vacancy for the 2005-2006 year.

With almost 2,000 members, the YLD is the largest section within BAMSL. It provides philanthropic, networking and professional develpment opportunities to its members who are under the age of 36 or have been practicing for five years or less.
