Stutz Artiano Welcomes New Associate in the Las Vegas Office
Stutz Artiano Shinoff & Holtz is pleased to announce Mercedes S. Menendez has joined the Las Vegas Office.

Ms. Menendez practices primarily in the areas of construction law and general tort litigation. She did pro bono work in San Diego, providing immigration services. Admitted to the Nevada State Bar in January 2006, she is a member of the Clark County Bar Association.

Stutz Artiano Announces Appointment of New Associate in the San Diego Office
Stutz Artiano is pleased to announce the appointment of Logan M. Fairfax to Associate in the San Diego Office.

Mr. Fairfax practices in a variety of legal areas, including employment, education, public entity, general business law and advisory work. His previous legal experience includes automobile insurance defense litigation, construction law, and premises liability matters. Through the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Mr. Fairfax has engaged in pro bono work to provide legal services and guidance to persons unable to pay for legal representation.

CAROL P. DABNER APPOINTED BY TEXAS SUPREME COURT TO SERVE ON GUARDIAN CERTIFICATION BOARD
The Texas Supreme Court has appointed attorney Carol P. Dabner of Dallas’ Underwood, Perkins & Ralston, P.C. to serve on the State’s Guardianship Certification Board. The appointment, for a three year term, is generally recognized to be an acknowledgment of superior expertise in the area of guardianship and related law. The Guardianship Certification Board determines the minimum qualifications necessary for an individual to be certified by the State of Texas as a guardian.

Ms. Dabner, a member of the Texas and Wisconsin Bars, practices in the areas of guardianships, probate and elder law. She has also served on the boards of the Dallas Legal Hospice, Autism Treatment Center and as Co-Chair of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Legal Aid to the Elderly Committee.

As further recognition of her unique expertise and experience, Ms. Dabner was recently certified by the National Guardianship Foundation and elected to serve on the Executive Council of the Dallas Bar Association’s Probate Section. She resides in Highland Village with her husband, Rick, and two sons, Ricky and Quincy.

TIMOTHY S. PERKINS JOINS THE MANAGEMENT BOARD OF MSI
Perkins & Ralston, P.C. is pleased to announce that Timothy S. Perkins has been asked to serve on the Management Board of MSI Legal & Accounting Network Worldwide as a representative from the United States. Brandon R. King, Esq., joins Smith Sovik
In April 2006, Brandon joined Smith Sovik as its newest partner. Prior to joining Smith Sovik, Brandon was a partner at the Sugarman Law Firm in Syracuse. A 1995 graduate of Albany Law School and 1992 graduate of Oswego State University, Brandon first worked for Legal Aid after graduating from law school.

Brandon currently serves as the Chairman of the Mock Trial Committee of the Onondaga County Bar Association.

At Smith Sovik, Brandon's practice will focus on personal injury claims, premises liability claims, construction litigation, and the defense of design professionals.

Smith Sovik Partners Best Trial Lawyers in America

Smith Pachter McWhorter Attorneys Recognized as Outstanding in Chambers USA Rankings and Virginia Super Lawyers
Smith Pachter McWhorter is pleased that the 2006 Chambers USA survey of America’s leading business lawyers recognizes our firm’s construction and government contracts practice groups for outstanding work. The survey reports that Val McWhorter is a first-rank construction practice leader “with a wealth of experience representing contractors in claims against government and commercial bodies” and as having built “a strong profile in nationwide civil infrastructure projects.” In addition, the 2005 Chambers survey stated the firm is a “high-quality construction firm” that scores “ten out of ten” with clients, and with sources saying “They understand construction 100%.”

For its government contracts work, the 2006 Chambers survey said the firm is “hailed as ‘expert and experienced.’” The survey reported John Pachter “gives a quality service to clients,” and one client said: “I’ve observed his practice for over 20 years and the comments he makes and the positions he takes are wonderful.” The survey also noted John’s reputation for resolving disputes.

In addition, three of our attorneys, Val McWhorter, John Pachter and Richard Smith, were listed in Virginia Super Lawyers 2006 as among the top attorneys in Virginia.
