Corporate Attorney Ernest M. Stern Joins Seyfarth Shaw’s Washington, D.C. Office

Stern has joined the firm's Washington, D.C. office as partner in its Corporate and Finance Practice Group. Previously, Stern was partner with Schiff Hardin LLP where he was head of that firm’s Business and Technology Practice Group.

Stern's practice is focused on corporate and securities transactions with an emphasis on high-technology clients. He has significant experience in public and private equity and debt financings, as well as venture capital investments and domestic and overseas mergers and acquisitions transactions. He represents hedge funds, publicly traded companies and emerging companies as well as various brokers/dealers and investment advisers.

Washington, D.C. Attorney James L. Banks Joins Seyfarth Shaw’s Labor & Employment Practice
Seyfarth Shaw LLP, one of America’s leading full service law firms, announced that James L. Banks has joined the firm's Washington, D.C. office as partner in its Labor & Employment practice. Previously, Banks was a partner with McGuire Woods LLP.

Banks is a highly experienced and accomplished employment litigator. He has a full range of litigation experience from employment litigation to commercial litigation to criminal prosecution, and has tried more than 500 bench and jury trials in both state and federal courts. He has tried cases under a variety of employment statutes including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Virginia Human Rights Act. His practice also focuses on counseling clients on labor and employment matters, including hiring practices and procedures, compensation issues, discipline and termination of employees, and non-compete agreements.

“Jim is a seasoned litigator with significant confidence and skill at handling complex labor cases and taking them through to trial,” stated Jeremy P. Sherman, chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group. “As a former prosecutor and successful trial attorney, his measurable experience in the court room is an asset to our practice group and national client base. As a former member of the city council and the vice-mayor for the city of Richmond, VA, he has extensive experience in funding and structuring of nonprofit organizations. Through service on boards of directors of various nonprofit corporations, he has extensive exposure to all issues involving nonprofit organizational compliance. Banks received his B.A (cum laude) from Gettysburg College and earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.

Gibson Dunn to Receive Achievement in Adoption Award from North American Council on Adoptable Children
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that the firm will receive the 2006 Corporate Award for Special Achievement in Adoption from the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC). Through this award, NACAC honors organizations that have made a significant contribution to adoption or permanence for children.

The award ceremony will be held in Long Beach at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach Hotel on Saturday, July 29 in conjunction with NACAC's 32nd annual conference. Nearly 1,500 conference attendees are expected from across the U.S., Canada and beyond.

The firm is being honored for the strides it has made in expediting the adoption process for thousands of children. In 1998, the firm spearheaded the Adoption Saturday project, which brings volunteer attorneys and judges together to finalize adoptions and has resulted in the adoption of thousands of children living in foster care. Since the program was created, Gibson Dunn attorneys and staff have personally handled more than 2,000 adoptions.

23 Pillsbury Attorneys Named Super Lawyers in New York
Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP announces today that 22 of its lawyers have been chosen as ""New York Super Lawyers for 2006"" by Law & Politics magazine and its parent company Key Professional Media, Inc., a legal publisher and independent researcher of legal industry surveys nationwide.

According to Law & Politics, Super Lawyers account for approximately the top 5% of all New York attorneys. Honorees were selected based on a combination of peer voting, internal research, and a blue ribbon review process.
