Danielle Guard Named Partner
Danielle M. Guard, an associate at Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt, Gould & Birney LLP since June 1997, became a partner of the firm in January 2005.

Ms. Guard’s practice has focused on medical malpractice defense as well as labor and employment law and general litigation.

She earned her B.A. from the University of Utah in 1990 and her J.D. in 1994 from the University of the Pacific – McGeorge School of Law.

Ronald Lamb Joins Firm
Experienced litigator Ronald Lamb became of counsel to Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt, Gould & Birney LLP as of April 2005.

For more than 15 years Mr. Lamb has specialized in the defense of medical malpractice cases and administrative law actions pertaining to medical malpractice issues. This defense has included both an active trial practice as well as resolutions involving contractual binding arbitration.

A 1981 graduate of University of the Pacific – McGeorge School of Law, Mr. Lamb served as a U.S. Air Force navigator and instructor then remained in the reserves as an Air Intelligence Officer until he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997.

Trevor L. Stapleton has joined Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt, Gould & Birney, LLP as an Associate
Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt, Gould & Birney, LLP, is pleased to announce that Trevor L. Stapleton has joined the firm as an Associate.

Mr. Stapleton is a transactional attorney, advising individuals, sole-proprietors and small businesses in taxation, entity formation, general business law, asset protection and real estate. His practice also includes estate planning with an emphasis on estate and gift tax planning, probate and trust law. He received his Juris Doctorate and Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Willamette University College of Law and his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law. He is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of California, the State of Washington and the United States Tax Court.

“Mr. Stapleton is a fine attorney who brings new depth and experience to our practice and to our clients,” said Stephen K. Marmaduke, Managing Partner. “His skills complement and broaden our services. We are very fortunate that he chose to join our firm,” he added.

SHANLEY, SWEENEY, REILLY & ALLEN P.C. PRINCIPALS TO JOIN WHITEMAN OSTERMAN & HANNA LLP
The four principals of the law firm of Shanley, Sweeney, Reilly & Allen P.C. of Albany will join Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP, the Capital Region’s largest law firm, also of Albany, effective January 1 the two firms announced today, creating the region’s most comprehensive real estate and land use practice group.

Robert L. Sweeney, J. Stephen Reilly, John L. Allen and Christopher E. Buckey will join Whiteman Osterman & Hanna as partners. Seven other attorneys, all associates at the firm, have also been invited to join Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, as have the firm’s support staff members.

“We are very pleased to have these attorneys join our firm, bringing with them extensive experience and knowledge in all aspects of real estate law,” said Philip H. Gitlen, co-managing partner of Whiteman Osterman & Hanna and a member of its environmental practice group. “Their expertise in real estate development, finance and commercial leasing and related litigation, as well as their expertise in municipal finance, complements the expertise of our real estate attorneys, who have extensive experience in land use, zoning and environmental review and adds additional depth to our broad-based commercial real estate development practice. The joining of these two practices will create a tremendous depth of ability in all aspects of real estate law.”

Sweeney, who is a principal of Shanley, Sweeney, Reilly & Allen, said, “There is a great deal of excitement about joining Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, which has a sterling reputation in our region. Together, we will be able to provide clients with the broadest range of legal services available in the Capital Region.”

Currently, Whiteman Osterman & Hanna has 62 attorneys, 26 of whom are partners; its total staff numbers 138. Shanley, Sweeney, Reilly & Allen currently has a staff that totals 22. They will move into Whiteman Osterman & Hanna’s offices at One Commerce Plaza, across from the New York State Capitol, from their current offices in The Castle on Thurlow Terrace in Albany.

George Nowack Elected to CCAL Board of Governors
George E. Nowack, Jr. has been elected to The College of Community Association Lawyers Board of Governors. Nowack, a founding partner of Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco, P.C. and former president of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), will serve a three year term beginning in March. The College of Community Association Lawyers was established by the Community Associations Institute's Board of Trustees in 1993.

The College was created to acknowledge CAI member attorneys who have distinguished themselves through contributions to the practice of community association law and who have committed to high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of community association law. Nowack was a charter member of The College's 1993 class. He is one of two members from Georgia.

Nowack has held numerous leadership positions in CAI including his tenure as president in 1994-95 and as executive director in 1989. A frequent conference speaker, he has also authored numerous articles on community association law.

Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco is nationally recognized for its extensive real estate, community association and litigation practices. Founded in 1991, the firm has 65 lawyers practicing throughout the southeast and in the firm's 13 offices located throughout the metropolitan area.

Jay Lazega Elected To College of Community Association Lawyers
Jay Lazega has been elected to The College of Community Association Lawyers, one of only three attorneys in Georgia to be a member. Lazega, a Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco, P.C. shareholder, is co-chair of the firm's community association practice.

Lazega is the editor of the award winning magazine, Community Advisor, distributed three times per year to the firm's community association clients. The publication recently took first place in the Legal Marketing Association's collateral materials category for magazines and honorable mention in PR News Legal PR Awards.

The College was created to acknowledge CAI member attorneys who have distinguished themselves through contributions to the practice of community association law and who have committed to high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of community association law. Eighty-four attorneys have been inducted since The College's inception in 1993.

Tonia Sellers Named Woman of Achievement
Tonia Sellers, managing partner of Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco, PC, was named a Woman of Achievement by the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. She was recognized for her volunteer work with the Alfred & Adele Davis Academy during the 22nd Women of Achievement ceremony at The Temple.

The annual event honors women who lend their time and talents as volunteers in Jewish organizations, schools and congregations across the Jewish community. A volunteer at The Davis Academy for nine years, Sellers is currently first vice president of the school's Board of Trustees. Her varied volunteer responsibilities include oversight of the school's capital and fundraising campaigns.

A previous Woman of Achievement winner for her work at Temple Kehillat Chaim, she is currently a member of Temple Sinai where she is co-chair of Second Helpings, a non-profit food distribution project responsible for distributing over 150,000 pounds of food a year to non-profit agencies. Under her leadership, Weissman, Nowack, Curry & Wilco has become one of Atlanta's top 25 law firms.

Sellers and her husband, attorney and author Seth Weissman, reside in Roswell with their four children.
