Jill Panagos Appointed as Chair of McGlinchey Stafford s Labor and Employment Practice Group
Jill Panagos, a Board Certified Labor and Employment attorney, joined McGlinchey Stafford’s Houston office in November of 2000 and is licensed to practice in Texas state and federal courts, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. In her new role leading the multi-office Labor and Employment team, which is focused on representing management in labor and employment legal matters, Panagos will spearhead the coordination of the practice’s national client teams and industry-focused business development efforts. Panagos’s experience and background includes litigating multiparty ERISA benefits and discrimination matters, arbitrating complex contract labor disputes, representing employers before state and federal agencies and consulting with organizations on employment matters. She has tried more than twenty jury trials, successfully defending eight corporate clients to take-nothing verdicts over the past eight years, and argued before state and federal courts of appeal.

Panagos’s defense practice focuses on representing Texas and national corporations engaged in healthcare, residential construction and consumer finance. She represents hospitals, banks, mortgage lenders, school districts and non-profit organizations such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the American Red Cross. Panagos has published articles and regularly speaks on timely labor and employment issues to private corporate management and at EEOC outreach programs, continuing legal education seminars and bar association groups.

Panagos graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1982, received her law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1985 and her LL.M degree from Emory University School of Law in 1987.

“Jill is a proven leader and is well respected within our firm,” said Rudy Aguilar, Managing Partner of McGlinchey Stafford. “Her client-focused, team-player, get-the-job-done attitude will greatly benefit the Labor and Employment team as she steps into this new and important role.”

Panagos succeeds Fred Preis who served in this role for fourteen years. Preis will continue to serve clients on labor and employment matters and advance the firm’s local business development efforts through his leadership positions as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and member of the boards of the World Trade Center, GNO (Greater New Orleans) Inc. and the Jefferson Parish Chamber of Commerce during the crucial rebuilding efforts in New Orleans following hurricane Katrina. Additionally, Preis continues to mentor the next generation of firm leaders.

“Fred has dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to building an outstanding nationwide labor and employment practice. His contribution to McGlinchey Stafford has been invaluable,” added Aguilar.

Lommen Nelson Has Top Super Lawyers
Phil Cole, president of Lommen Nelson, is among the Top 100 Super Lawyers in Minnesota, as determined in conjunction with the Super Lawyer selection process conducted by Minnesota Law & Politics, Twin Cities Business Monthly and MPLS-St. PAUL Magazine. Phil Cole is a litigator, practicing both in the areas of commercial litigation and personal injury litigation. The firm's other super lawyers include Bob Abdo (corporate and securities law), Bob King (litigation), Roger Stageberg (corporate and securities law), Kay Nord Hunt (appeals), Keith Broady (civil litigation and corporate), Ken Abdo (entertainment), Dan Satorius (entertainment) and Reid Lindquist (litigation). Stephen Rathke and Scott Nelson have previously been selected as Super Lawyers and Scott Nelson is also a perennial Super CPA.

Super Lawyer ballots are sent to more than 18,000 people and 11,000 ballots were counted. A 150-member blue ribbon panel reviews the list and then a selection committee makes the final cuts. Only five percent of Minnesota's licensed attorneys made the list of Super Lawyers for 2004. Twenty percent of Lommen Nelson's attorneys are Super Lawyers! The list includes lawyers from all regions of the state and all types of practices, from large firms to solo practices. It includes lawyers in private practice, public interest lawyers, in-house counsel, prosecutors and public defenders. The list of 100 top vote-getters in that five percent Super Lawyer category are then published. The 2006 Super Lawyers are published in the August issues of Minnesota Law & Politics, Twin Cities Business Monthly and MPLS-St. PAUL Magazine
