CRAVATH REPRESENTS IBM IN ITS ACQUISITION OF PRINCETON SOFTECH
Cravath represented IBM in its acquisition of Princeton Softech Inc., a privately held company that provides data archiving, test data management, data privacy and data classification and discovery software. The lawyers involved in this matter are partner George F. Schoen, associates Cristina M. Amodeo, Johnny G. Skumpjia and Kai H. Liekefett, and summer associate Justin W. Hoest on corporate matters; partner Andrew W. Needham and associate J. Leonard Teti on tax matters; and partner Eric W. Hilfers and associate Kerry Halpern-Skoglund on executive compensation and benefits matters. The deal was announced on August 3, 2007.

Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Ranks as Leading Intellectual Property Law Firm in Chicago by PLC Cross-border Handbook
Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione is listed as the leading intellectual property law firm in Chicago, according to The PLC Cross-border Intellectual Property Handbook 2007/2008. Further, the firm is one of only a few intellectual property boutiques in the nation singled out as recommended in the area of patent litigation.

In addition, five of the firm's shareholders have been recognized as leading lawyers in their field. The five Brinks attorneys receiving high recommendations in the guide are: Jerome Gilson, Raymond W. Green, Roy E. Hofer, Jerold A. Jacover and Gary M. Ropski.

Jerome Gilson is a senior shareholder in the firm's trademark practice. According to the PLC guide, he is "highly-recommended" and "regarded as one of the best trade mark lawyers in Chicago [whose] practice covers all aspects of trade mark registration and protection. [He] also enjoys a strong litigation profile." Mr. Gilson has specialized in trademark and unfair competition law for almost 45 years and is the original author of Trademark Protection and Practice, recently renamed Gilson on Trademarks.

Raymond W. Green, a shareholder and chair of the firm's Interferences Group, is recommended as "a highly-rated and renowned patent specialist with experience in all aspects of prosecution and protection."

Roy E. Hofer is a senior shareholder with more than 45 years of experience in the litigation of patent, trade secret, trade dress and related antitrust and contract matters. According to the handbook: "Acknowledged as one of the leading names in the city, he is a longstanding litigator with a wealth of experience across the gamut of patent, trade secret and anti-trust issues." Mr. Hofer is designated as one of two "Leading" attorneys in IP in the Chicago area.

Jerold A. Jacover, a shareholder and immediate past president of the firm, according to the handbook, is "recommended" and is "recognized in the market for his strong patent litigation track record."

Gary M. Ropski, president of Brinks, is singled out in the individual rankings as "highly-recommended" and is cited as "maintain[ing] a broad-based IP litigation practice." Mr. Ropski's practice includes trademark, patent and copyright litigation, as well as counseling and advisory work.

Published by the Practical Law Company in London, England, the Cross-border Handbooks are comprehensive guides to law firms and leading lawyers worldwide in key practice areas and industry sectors. This is the fifth edition of the PLC guide.

Roy E. Wagner Elected as Chairperson-Elect of the Construction and Public Contract Law Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin
von Briesen & Roper, s.c., announced today that Shareholder Roy E. Wagner has been elected the Chairperson-Elect of the Construction and Public Contract Law Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin. The purpose of the Construction and Public Contract Law Section is to bring together members of the State Bar of Wisconsin who have a special interest in the fields of construction and public contract law; to encourage communication and exchange of ideas among attorneys practicing in such fields; to participate in the presentation of educational seminars on construction and public contract law; to further the development and improvement of construction and public contract law by commenting, where appropriate, on proposed state and federal legislation; and to provide information on construction and public contract law through meetings, programs and publications.

Wagner also chairs the Construction Law and Litigation Section of von Briesen & Roper, s.c. His practice focuses on construction matters including assisting design professionals, contractors, developers, and owners in facilitating their projects and solving their legal disputes. He utilizes mediation, arbitration and litigation as appropriate to finalize dispute resolutions and has acted as both arbitrator and mediator.

Wagner is a member of the American, Milwaukee and Waukesha Bar Associations, and the State Bar of Wisconsin. He lectures regularly to lawyer and trade groups on construction practices. In 2006, Roy received the Whitefish Bay Distinguished Volunteer of the Year award for his work as the Chairman of the Architectural Review Commission and for upgrading the Municipal Design Guidelines. Wagner is featured in the December 2006 issue of The Wisconsin Law Journal as one of the Top Construction Lawyers in Wisconsin.

Wagner received a J.D. in 1978 from Marquette University and a B.A., with Distinction, in 1975 from the University of Wisconsin. He resides in Whitefish Bay, WI, with his wife, Ginny, and their children.

Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann Welcomes Two New Lawyers
Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann L.L.C. welcomes Jennifer Borum Bechet and Lauren E. Godshall to the firm.

Ms. Bechet is Special Counsel to the firm. She concentrates her practice in complex litigation, products liability and mass torts. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Bechet served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable James M. Sprouse of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She practiced both civil and criminal law in New York City and Richmond, Virginia and served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Ms. Bechet received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1990 where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. She received her B.A. with highest honors from Hampton University in 1987, graduating first in her class.

Ms. Godshall is an Associate of the firm. She earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2003 and her B.A., with high honors, in Environmental Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Godshall served as senior attorney for Chief Justice Rogelio Valdez on the 13th Court of Appeals in Texas. She also served as law clerk to Justice Dori C. Garza and previously practiced in California.

Gary S. Betensky Board Certified in Business Litigation Law
Gary S. Betensky, a Shareholder with the firm, has been designated as a Board Certified specialist in Business Litigation Law by The Florida Bar. Board certification recognizes special knowledge, skills and proficiency in business litigation law and distinguishes Mr. Betensky as a specialist in that practice area.

The Florida Bar (www.flabar.org), which currently has more than 80,000 members, is the statewide regulatory organization for lawyers. The Bar uses its highly selective process of certification to recognize attorneys who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to high standards in their practice. Currently, only a small percentage of the state’s lawyers have achieved the Bar’s certification.

Betensky maintains a civil trial, business litigation and appellate practice concentrating in complex commercial litigation and business disputes, with extensive experience in matters related to non-competition agreements and trade secrets, real estate, employment, disability insurance and torts.

An active community leader, Betensky is a member of the Board of Directors for the Palm Beach County Chapter of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). His other affiliations include the Anti-Defamation League, where he previously served as a National Commissioner, Chairman of the Florida Regional Board and Chair of the Broward County Civil Rights Committee. He is also a graduate of Leadership Broward County, a premier development program in which local community leaders gain insightful knowledge about the county and build a valuable contact network. Betensky is currently a member of The Florida Bar, the American Bar Association and the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He serves on the Professional Ethics Committee of The Florida Bar and is a member of the Board of Governors of Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center. In recognition of his legal contributions, Law and Politics magazine recently named Betensky a 2007 Florida Super Lawyer.

A resident of Boca Raton, Betensky received his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University and his Bachelor of Science in Public Communication from Boston University. He is admitted to practice in all state courts of Florida, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Lossia joins Plunkett Cooney’s Insurance Practice Group
Plunkett Cooney continued the expansion of its insurance coverage practice with the addition of Darren A. Lossia, a former in-house attorney for a national insurance company.

Prior to joining Plunkett Cooney, Lossia worked as the Midwest Casualty Claims Manager for North Pointe Insurance Company. He has extensive experience in all aspects of claims management involving commercial general liability and liquor liability policies, insurance litigation management, settlement negotiations and legal opinions regarding policy coverage issues.

“Darren is very knowledgeable about the insurance industry and the technical aspects of coverage,” said Plunkett Cooney Insurance/Professional Liability Department Leader Robert G. Kamenec. “His expertise will benefit our clients, and he adds further depth to our national insurance practice.”

A member of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, Lossia focuses his practice exclusively in the area of insurance coverage. He represents insurance companies in complex insurance matters involving environmental contamination, and defective products and homeowner’s liability coverage.

Lossia received his law degree from University of Michigan Law School in 2002 and his master’s degree in management, with high honors, from Walsh College in 1997. He received his undergraduate degree, with honors, from Albion College in 1991.

The members of Plunkett Cooney’s Insurance Law Practice Group represent national and international insurance carriers in coverage disputes, including consulting, litigation, and regulatory proceedings. Members of this practice group have served as national and regional trial counsel for insurance carriers in breast implant, environmental, asbestos, construction and pharmaceutical coverage litigation.
