K&L Gates Appoints Director of Diversity
Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP (K&L Gates) has appointed diversity strategist Richard Jones as the firm’s Director of Diversity (U.S.). Jones, a former practicing lawyer and legal educator, has spent the past decade collaborating with clients of a California-based diversity consulting firm to develop business-focused, comprehensive diversity programs that addressed generational, cultural, racial, gender, sexual orientation, and other issues involving diversity in the workplace, with an emphasis on teamwork and inclusion.

At K&L Gates, Jones will lead the promotion of the firm’s diversity recruitment and retention goals, including designing and implementing diversity and associate recruitment and retention initiatives, further developing the firm’s mentoring programs, and raising and promoting awareness of diversity issues within and outside of the firm. Jones will carry out these programs alongside K&L Gates’ Diversity Committee and under the direction of the firm’s Chief Officer of Human Relations.

Linda Pissott Reig Has Been Named to New Jersey Law Journal's List of 40 Lawyers Under 40
Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. is pleased to announce that New Jersey Law Journal has named Linda Pissott Reig to its 40 under 40 list of lawyers. The attorneys are selected based on achievements in their careers, recognition by peers and professional organizations, membership and leadership in bar and other associations, and records of lectures and publications. The 40 lawyers selected are viewed as the future leaders of the New Jersey bar.

Ms. Reig is a principal of Porzio, Bromberg & Newman in the Pharmaceutical Marketing and Sales Compliance and Litigation Department and Appellate Practice Group. Ms. Reig defends pharmaceuticals in products liability, class action and consumer fraud lawsuits. She also evaluates drug advertising and promotion, gifts to physician, educational grants and continuing medical education programs, use of market research services, interactions with managed care organizations, and promotion over the Internet. She conducts in-depth training on standards covering the marketing and sales of drug products, and develops policies and standard operating procedures in connection with establishing an effective compliance program. Additionally, she advises on evaluation of post-marketing adverse events and implementation of labeling changes. Ms. Reig is a summa cum laude graduate of Rutgers Newark College of Arts & Sciences, and cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Following law school, Ms. Reig was a judicial law clerk with then New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Marie L. Garibaldi. She is Chairman of the Board of the New Jersey Defense Association, and past chairperson of the NJDA’s Products Liability Committee. She also is a member of the Defense Research Institute’s Drug & Medical Device Committee and the NJ State Bar Association Appellate Practice Committee.

Pierce Atwood LLP Diversity Committee Appoints John Gulliver as Chair
Attorney John Gulliver, a partner at Pierce Atwood LLP, is appointed to chair the newly established Diversity Committee at the law firm. Mr. Gulliver is the leader of the energy practice and international practice groups at Pierce Atwood LLP.

The other members of the committee include: firm partner and employment litigator Margaret Coughlin LePage; firm partner and litigator Geraldine Sanchez; Brian Rayback, a partner in the firm’s environmental practice group; Marianna Putnam Liddell, an associate in the state and local tax practice group; Dean Turner, chief administrative officer and Tara Jenkins, human resources director.

“The level and scope of diversity increases every year in Maine, bringing many valued perspectives to our communities and economy. We are dedicated to growing our understanding of the needs, concerns and opportunities of a diverse workplace and taking our commitment to this issue beyond Maine, sharing it with the clients and colleagues with whom we work throughout the region, the nation and the world, ” says Mr. Gulliver.

The committee will centralize the firm’s approach to diversity initiatives, some of which will be new programs, and others, like the Immigration Legal Advocacy Project, will be efforts that the law firm has been involved in for many years and plans to continue.

Andrew T. Starr Joins Lathrop & Gage as Of Counsel
Joel Voran, CEO of Lathrop & Gage L.C. announced today that Andrew T. Starr has joined the Overland Park, Kan. office as of counsel in the civil litigation collections practice area.

Starr handles consumer and business collection cases and focuses his practice on secured and unsecured claims, auto loans and leases. He regularly appears in court on behalf of clients in both Kansas and Missouri including a local hospital, auto lenders, department stores, credit cards, and a variety of other creditors. He also advises on landlord/tenant matters and on the fair debt collection practices act.

Starr leads an independent committee of attorneys focusing on creditors’ rights. He also presents on a variety of collection and landlord/tenant matters to professional and legal organizations.

Recently, Starr played an integral role in modifying a state rule by suggesting a change in the garnishment section of the Missouri Rules of Civil Procedure to the Supreme Court Rules Committee. The Missouri Supreme Court adopted one of Starr's suggestions, which gives judgment creditors more time to respond to answers from garnishees.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah in 1992 and his juris doctorate from The University of Georgia School of Law in 1998. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, Kansas Bar Association, Lawyers Association of Kansas City, The Central Exchange, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Johnson County Bar Association, Harvard-Radcliff Club of Kansas City, and was a committee member on the East Gateway Redevelopment Study Team. He is also a board member of the Lido Villas Association, Inc.

Ashely M. Chan Named 2007 Lawyer on the Fast Track
Ashely M. Chan, a bankruptcy shareholder at Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin, was named a 2007 Lawyer on the Fast Track by The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly. Ms. Chan is one of 35 Pennsylvania attorneys selected this year for being one of "the future leaders of the state's legal community.”

Ms. Chan concentrates her practice in the areas of bankruptcy and corporate restructuring. She is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Homeless Advocacy Project, a legal aid project of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Ms. Chan is a 1996 graduate of Rutgers Law School-Camden, where she received Tax Honors With Distinction. She received her B.A. in Mathematics from Douglass College, Rutgers University in 1993. From 1996 to 1997, Ms. Chan served as law clerk for the Honorable Gloria M. Burns of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. Ms. Chan was recently recognized in the 2007 Marquis Who's Who of American Women. She was also named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer - Rising Star in 2005 and 2006 and a New Jersey Super Lawyer-Rising Star in 2007.

Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin, a 41-lawyer firm, has offices in Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The firm’s practice includes litigation, bankruptcy, corporate and business law, real estate, education and tax and estates.

Bryan Brewer Joins Crowell & Moring's Corporate and Securities Practice
Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of partner H. Bryan Brewer, III, to the firm's expanding Corporate Group. Based in the Washington, D.C. office, Brewer’s practice focuses on public securities, private equity, mergers and acquisitions and export controls. The addition of Brewer comes on the heels of a host of Corporate Group hires during the past two years, including the recent addition of a nine lawyer financial services team in New York. Brewer joins from Nixon Peabody LLP.

Brewer has handled numerous public and private offerings, both debt and equity, and has represented and counseled many public entities on SEC and stock exchange compliance matters, including requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, acquisition matters and proxy solicitations. An experienced corporate attorney, his practice has regularly included mergers & acquisitions, debt offerings, tender offers, financing transactions, joint ventures and corporate governance counseling. His clients have included rapidly expanding start-up, pre-IPO and public companies, including technology, life sciences, telecommunications, government contractors, media, financial and others. Brewer, who spearheaded Nixon Peabody’s regional life sciences initiative, has significant experience in the technology and life sciences arena.

In addition to traditional corporate and securities law work, Brewer also has a significant practice focus on export control law and will also be a member of Crowell & Moring’s International Trade Group. Wipro Technologies to Acquire Infocrossing
Davis Polk & Wardwell is advising Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC as financial adviser to Infocrossing, Inc. on its announced acquisition by Wipro Technologies. Based in Leonia, New Jersey, Infocrossing is a provider of selective IT infrastructure management, enterprise application and business process outsourcing services. Based in Bangalore, India, Wipro Technologies is the global IT services business of Wipro Limited, a provider of comprehensive IT solutions and services, including systems integration, information systems outsourcing, package implementation, software application development and maintenance, and research and development services to corporations globally.

The companies have signed a definitive agreement for Wipro to acquire Infocrossing for $18.70 per share in an all cash deal that will create one of the world leaders in end-to-end IT infrastructure management solutions. The acquisition will be conducted by means of a tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of Infocrossing, followed by a merger of Infocrossing with a Wipro subsidiary. The tender offer is subject to a number of customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close by the fourth quarter of 2007.

The Davis Polk corporate team includes partner William L. Taylor and associate Andrew J. Chen, both of the New York office.
