Myers Appointed to ABA Public Utility, Communications, and Transportation Section Council Group
Elisabeth Myers, a partner in Blackwell Sanders’ DC Office, has been selected to serve on the leadership group, known as the Council Group, of the ABA Public Utility, Communications, and Transportation Law Section.

With her significant background and experience in the regulation of oil pipelines, Myers simultaneously was appointed Vice-Chair of the Section’s Oil Pipelines Committee. As a specialist as well in regulation of natural gas pipelines, she will also participate on the Natural Gas Committee.

Vault Names Baker Botts #1 in Texas for Fifth Year in a Row
Vault has named Baker Botts the #1 firm in Texas in the 2008 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms. This is the fifth consecutive time the firm has been recognized in this category, having won the award every year since Texas rankings began in 2004.

Vault surveyed more than 18,800 associates at more than 167 law firms to determine the most prestigious firms in the country.

Among the survey responses, a Baker Botts associate in the Houston office said, “The sky is the limit at this firm.

Shingleton Awarded National Affiliate Award
Steptoe & Johnson is pleased to announce that Lorena A. Shingleton, a paralegal in the firm’s Charleston office, has recently been awarded the prestigious National Affiliates Award by NALA, The National Association of Legal Assistants/Paralegals. Shingleton received the award at the annual seminar in New Orleans in July.

Senniger Powers' Associate Julie Jennings Writes about Google AdWords.
Senniger Powers' Associate Julie Jennings has written an article titled "What Trademark Owners Should Know about Google's AdWords." The article appears in Unbound Edition, an online publication of Patrick Davis Partners, a national brand strategy and management consulting firm.

Ms. Jennings states that "while AdWords is a lucrative program for both Google and advertisers, it raises issues not only for businesses? intellectual property attorneys but for brand managers as well." She further asserts that "as long as courts continue to struggle with the trademark law issues raised by Google?s AdWords program, the intersection of the law and the Internet with respect to online keyword advertising will remain a gray area worthy of close monitoring for businesses and Google alike."

Stephen M. Gross Appointed Co-Chair of Business Restructuring Department -
McDonald Hopkins PLC, a full-service business law firm with an office in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has appointed Stephen M. Gross co-chair of the firm’s Business Restructuring Services Department, which is one of the largest in the Midwest.

Gross will co-chair the Business Restructuring Services Department along with current co-chair Shawn M. Riley, who is based in the firm’s Cleveland office and was named managing partner of the Cleveland office earlier this year.

Gross, who is managing partner of the firm’s Michigan office, has been extensively involved in business restructuring matters, as well as acquisitions and divestitures for more than 20 years. With a focus on the automotive industry and other manufacturing businesses, he specializes in counseling mid-market businesses facing complex financial issues. In a related appointment, the firm also named Charles B. Zellmer chair of its Business Department. Zellmer replaces Carl J. Grassi, who was elected to firm president earlier this year.

Attorney Kevin M. Greenberg joins Flaster/Greenberg's Philadelphia Office as Shareholder
Kevin M. Greenberg has joined Flaster/Greenberg as a shareholder and member of the firm's Intellectual Property, Corporate and Real Estate Practice Groups in its Philadelphia office. He will focus on general business, licensing, trademark, franchise and technology-related matters, zoning and regulatory issues particular to wireless technologies.

Prior to joining Flaster/Greenberg, Greenberg served as the City of Philadelphia's Chief Deputy City Solicitor for Economic Development and Investments. In his time with the Law Department, he played a central role in the City's efforts to prepare for and implement gaming in Philadelphia, create and negotiate the agreements that are allowing the Wireless Philadelphia initiative that has made Philadelphia the world leader in forefront of the Internet and wireless technology, and was instrumental in a variety of development projects including arts and culture institutions, reuses of the waterfront and brownfields, and innovative public/private partnerships. He has significant experience successfully navigating the issues of local land use controls, community engagement, and the political issues facing economic development projects. Philadelphia, helping to establish Philadelphia as the first major wireless city.

Spirgel, managing shareholder of the firm. “The depth of his experience and knowledge of new areas of growth and development in the City Philadelphia help create a stronger legal platform to further serve our clients,” he added.

Greenberg has also served as: general counsel and director of government affairs, managing all legal matters, for a local health care software company; as law clerk to the late Honorable Robert S. Gawthrop, III, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and was an associate at Wolf Block. An active community leader in Philadelphia, Greenberg is a director of the Philadelphia Commercial Development Corporation, a non-profit quasi-governmental economic development organization focused on small businesses, and previously served as president and as a director of the Fairmount Civic Association, the community organization for Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. He also has served in senior advisory and staff capacities to a number of candidates and elected officials.
