Six Holland & Knight Lawyers Named as Finalists for the Washington Business Journal's Annual Top Lawyer Awards
Holland & Knight LLP is pleased to announce that the Washington Business Journal has named six of the firm's attorneys as finalists for the 2006 Top Washington Lawyer awards. Holland & Knight has more finalists than any other law firm. The winners will be announced at an awards reception on Thursday, September 14, 2006, at the Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C.

These Holland & Knight lawyers have been named finalists in the following categories:

Richard Lear – Bankruptcy
Lear practices primarily in litigation, emphasizing insolvency, Chapter 11, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy issues. He has served as counsel for institutional lenders, franchisors, leasing companies and landlords on individual and business bankruptcies and in workouts. He also is very experienced with structuring entities to comply with rating agency requirements for special purpose entities (SPE) and with non-consolidation opinions in securitized transactions.

Paul Kiernan – Real Estate Litigation
Kiernan is a trial lawyer and appellate advocate who focuses on real estate and local government law. He represents developers, institutions, lenders, builders, real estate trusts, hotels, landlords and tenants on land use, zoning, condemnation, development and property management disputes.

Norman ""Chip"" Glasgow, Jr. – Zoning
Glasgow represents real estate developers as well as public and private institutions in zoning, building code and historic preservation law matters before the Board of Zoning Adjustment, Zoning Commission, State Historic Review Board and Commission of Fine Arts.

Steven Dube – Young Guns
Dube practices in the areas of transactional real estate and land use law, representing developers of residential, commercial and large-scale mixed use condominium regimes throughout all phases of the condominium formation process in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

Craig Holman – Young Guns
Holman practices in the areas of government contracts and commercial litigation. He litigates claims, default terminations and protests involving federal, state and local government contracts.

Tara Scanlon – Young Guns
Scanlon concentrates her practice on commercial real estate transactions which include development matters, sales and acquisitions, as well as retail and office leasing.

Los Angeles Lawyer to Speak on Preliminary and Permanent Injunctions in Patent Cases September 25
Hogan & Hartson LLP partner Laurence H. Pretty will speak on ""Preliminary and Permanent Injunctions in Patent Cases"" at the Practising Law Institute (PLI) Patent Litigation 2006 conference on September 25. The conference is being held at the PLI California Center in San Francisco - and via live Webcast - from September 25-26. Pretty is also the author and editor of PLI's Treatises, ""Patent Litigation.""

Christian Brothers University Honors Christopher J. Kane As Distinguished Alumnus of the Year
Christopher J. Kane, a member of the New Orleans office of Adams and Reese, will be honored on Saturday, October 8, 2006, as Christian Brothers University’s Distinguished Young Alumnus of the Year. The award, which has been given annually since 1988, honors those alumni who have made significant contributions to his or her profession, contributed to society through public service and supported the efforts of the University.

""I feel privileged to have been selected for this award. To be recognized by the Christian Brothers community in Memphis for the efforts that we have focused on in New Orleans post-Katrina is truly a humbling experience. I applaud the University for fostering the value of leadership among its students. It has a lasting affect on its alumni, and their careers and their communities.""

Mr. Kane, an associate in the Litigation Practice Group, concentrates on environmental litigation and toxic tort, in addition to transportation, class action and complex litigation. Since the fall of 2005, he has focused on various Hurricane Katrina recovery legal issues. During that time, he founded a not-for-profit corporation designed to specifically assist small business recovery after the devastating natural disaster in the New Orleans area. This not-for-profit, known as Desire NOLA, has been nominated for numerous service awards and has been recognized by many respected community leaders. Mr. Kane was selected to participate in the inaugural U.S. Senate Leadership Summit that will take place in Washington, D.C. in September 2006. He is among 20 young professionals from Louisiana who were selected to attend after being nominated by Louisiana state and federal lawmakers. During the two-day summit, he will have the opportunity to network and brainstorm with other young professionals from around the country, and discuss such topics as economic growth, technology and entrepreneurship and health care.

Mr. Kane received his Juris Doctorate cum laude from Loyola University Law School in 2004. Having graduated in the top 10% of his class, he was named a Crowe Scholar, and received the Business Organizations Excellence Award for highest grade in the section, the Sales and Leases Excellence Award for the highest grade in the section, and the Trusts and Estates Excellence Award for the highest grades in the section. He served as Chairman of the Moot Court Board and was a Judge Levy Best Moot Court Brief Finalist. He is a member of the Order of the Barristers and has been named a candidate for St. Thomas More Inn of Court. He received his Masters of Business Administration magna cum laude from Christian Brothers University in 2001, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration magna cum laude from Christian Brothers in 2000, where he received the Senior School of Business Award.

VORYS ATTORNEY WILLIAM BALDWIN AMONG FORTY UNDER 40 WINNERS
Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is proud to announce William Baldwin has been selected as a member of the Forty Under 40 class of 2006, by the Cincinnati Business Courier.

The program was established in 1995 to identify and recognize the Tri-State's up-and-coming business, community and economic leaders. Mr. Baldwin was selected from a competitive pool of over 250 nominees, as one of the community's next generation of leaders and innovators.

Mr. Baldwin is a partner in the Cincinnati office where his practice focuses on real estate and commercial transactions, with a specialty in multifamily housing finance, elderly care finance and HUD/FHA programs. He has experience in various aspects of commercial real estate development and management, including land acquisition, leasing, and sales activities.

A significant portion of Mr. Baldwin’s practice involves representing owners, developers and contractors in the preparation and negotiation of construction contract documentation. He is also an active member of the American and Cincinnati Bar Associations.

Four Attorneys from Potter Anderson & Corroon Named in The Best Lawyers in America

Michael B. Tumas, Partner

Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs Expands Presence in South Florida with Opening of West Palm Beach Office
Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP (Buckingham), a full service law firm with offices in Ohio and Florida, announced today the opening of a West Palm Beach office, located in the North Bridge Centre at 515 N. Flagler Dr.

Brian J. Cooke joins the West Palm Beach office as shareholder and managing partner. Cooke concentrates his practice on corporate and transactional matters as well as family law. He has handled a diverse range of business transactions including stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions for major privately and publicly held businesses, mergers and consolidations, and complex debt refinancing. In addition to Florida, Cooke is licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey.

Carina M. Leeson, an associate, focuses her practice on family law and commercial litigation including contract disputes, employment and construction law. She has been admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

John A. Turner joins the firm as partner. He concentrates his practice on complex commercial and tort litigation, including toxic tort defense, intellectual property protection, franchise litigation, lender liability and corporate and partnership disputes. Turner also represents clients in corporate transactional matters including trademark registration and negotiation of license agreements, franchise agreements, and lease and terminal operating agreements. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Districts of Southern and Middle Florida.
