GPM named a “Great Place to Work” for an unprecedented fourth time!
Gray Plant Mooty has been named one of the “Great Places to Work” for 2006. This is the fourth time – consecutively – that the law firm has been recognized for its outstanding work environment.

The “Great Places to Work” award is based on the results of an online employee survey. This year 154 companies participated in the process, a record number, which makes this achievement even more noteworthy. Companies were separated into categories: small (10-100), medium (101-1,000) and large (1,001 and more). Gray Plant Mooty won in the medium category with 330 employees in its Minneapolis and St. Cloud offices.

Managing Officer, Bruce Mooty, explains that “everyone at Gray Plant Mooty plays an important part in creating and maintaining the firm’s rich culture and positive environment. Our clients frequently comment on how much they enjoy working with lawyers who like working with each other. We continually strive to make Gray Plant Mooty the best law firm it can be. This award reinforces our commitment to excellence in our firm and with our clients. We are extremely pleased to be recognized year after year as a great place to work.”

“Hiring and retaining top-notch employees is vitally important to our firm’s success, and being a ‘great place to work’ is where it all begins. Our reputation as a great law firm is well known throughout the community and we’re proud of it,” said Jodi Schmidt, the firm’s director of human resources.

NLJ Names Baker Botts to 'The Defense Hot List' for 2006
For the second year in a row, Baker Botts has been named to the National Law Journal's annual survey of top defense firms in the United States.

In a special supplement to its August 21 edition, NLJ editors provided insight into the selection process, stating that ""we looked for firms with an overall impressive track record that scored at least one significant defense win within the past 12 months. We're most interested here in firms that prevailed in a bench or jury trial, especially when the financial stakes were high, or where a win might set the tone for litigation strategy or determine the outcome of similar cases nationally.""

""We asked our readers to nominate defense firms that managed exemplary, cutting-edge work on the defense side. We supplemented the scores of submissions with our own research.""

In the Baker Botts listing, NLJ cited three cases as being representative of the firm's strength in the defense field:
* U.S. v. Hagstrom, lead attorney Michael J. Barta
* Elloway v. Pate, lead attorney James E. Maloney
* Per-Se Technology v. Sybase Inc., lead attorneys James W. Cannon Jr. and Maria Boyce

""This recognition for a second consecutive year by NLJ demonstrates the strength and depth of the Baker Botts trial practice,"" said Robb Voyles, chair of the firm's Litigation Department. ""It is much-deserved recognition for all of our lawyers, paralegals and staff who are dedicated to delivering the results clients expect from our firm.
