At Hunton & Williams, Silva will lead and run the private wealth tax and estate planning practice for the firm’s high net worth clients, and work on building the Tax & ERISA and commercial practice groups in South Florida.

Silva's legal practice includes advising domestic clients on U. HBSS Attorney Studying European Class Actions in Sweden
HBSS attorney, Robert Gaudet is spending the next year in Sweden studying the promotion and integration of class action lawsuits in Europe. Inspired by the U.S., Sweden has allowed class actions over the past few years and moves are being made to begin class action filings in both Norway and Denmark.

The new procedural rules will allow Europeans to aggregate claims against a single defendant. Multinational corporations often make the same misrepresentations to European consumers as they do Americans. This will ultimately allow plaintiff's lawyers the ability to bring similar complaints on both continents.

Until recently collective actions have been permitted by most E.U. Member States only when filed by an organization or association. What makes these news rules so revolutionary for the European courts is now individuals can file a complaint on behalf of themselves and others.

So far the three major players in Europe are Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Norway will allow class action filings beginning in January of 2008.

Joris Willems about his return to DLA Piper: “DLA Piper has an experienced and successful practice group in the field of Technology, Media and Commercial. DLA Piper advises ITV on sale and related services agreement
DLA Piper has advised ITV on the sale of Independent Television Facilities Centre Limited ("ITFC") to Elektrofilm Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Medici Group LLC. ITFC provides video post production for acquired programming and subtitling and audio description services.

DLA Piper also advised ITV on a long-term services agreement, which was put in place as part of the sale, under which ITFC will continue to provide post video production, subtitling and audio description services for ITV1 and other ITV channels.

Commenting on the deal, Mark Crichard, IT and telecommunications partner at DLA Piper, said: "We were delighted to be appointed to work with ITV again. The project was particularly challenging in that we needed to negotiate the long term service agreement (in the same way that we would for a conventional outsourcing deal), whilst at the same time dealing with the business sale."

The DLA Piper team advising ITV was led by Mark Crichard on the services agreement side and Jonathan Richards on the corporate side. The team, which included associates Richard Smith and Mark Chivers, worked closely with ITV's in-house lawyers, Suzanne Dibble and Lucy Beard.
Elektrofilm was advised by Latham & Watkins, led by Luke Grubb and Farah O'Brien.
