For third consecutive year, Nutter ranks in the Top 5 nationally in mid-level associates survey
Nutter ranked second in Boston and among the top five firms in the country (#5) in The American Lawyer annual survey of mid-level associates. This is the third consecutive year that the firm has ranked at or near the top in both Boston and nationally.

This year the survey questioned over 7,100 attorneys from 164 firms, of all sizes, across the nation.

The survey was designed to summarize the firm’s qualities, including interest and satisfaction levels of work, relations between associates and partners, training and guidance, benefits and compensation, billable hours policy, openness about finance and strategies, and the likelihood of an associate remaining at the firm in two years.

Nexsen Pruet Completes Move to New Offices in First Citizens Building
Nexsen Pruet announced today that the firm’s Columbia office has completed its move to the new First Citizens Center at 1230 Main St., Suite 700.

The move involved more than 200 people, and technology systems which support the firm’s seven offices located throughout North and South Carolina.

“Considering we’d been in our previous location for almost 20 years, the relocation came off pretty seamlessly,” said W. Leighton Lord III, Chairman of the Board of Nexsen Pruet. “Nobody missed a beat, and we’re really happy to be in a place that will accommodate our growth, deliver some significant technological advantages, and allow us to dedicate more space for clients.”

The First Citizens Center, completed in 2006, represents a significant investment in downtown Columbia. It includes a nine-story tower and a plaza space, as well as 170,000 square feet of office space. The bank's executive offices, its Columbia Main office, and several business lines and operations departments are housed there.

"First Citizens has built a fantastic building,” said Lord. “The look of the building fits wonderfully into the downtown landscape, and the outside plaza is a beautiful addition to the area. We are proud to be a tenant."

And like Nexsen Pruet, First Citizens has deep roots in the Carolinas. For close to 100 years, First Citizens Bank and Trust has served residents and businesses in South Carolina. "We warmly welcome our friends at Nexsen Pruet to the First Citizens Center,” said Jim Apple, Chairman and CEO of First Citizens. "Our shared roots in the community makes their presence a great fit and we are delighted they will be our neighbors."

Nexsen Pruet occupies part of the fourth floor and all of the fifth, sixth, and seventh floors in the First Citizens building.

Milbank Litigation Partner Linda Dakin-Grimm Recognized as a "Woman to Watch" by Business Insurance Magazine
Linda Dakin-Grimm, a litigation partner in the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, has been named a “Woman to Watch” by Business Insurance magazine. The “Women to Watch” feature highlights a group of 50 women leaders in commercial insurance, reinsurance, risk management and employee benefits who are involved in outstanding work not only within but also outside their organizations. Ms. Dakin-Grimm was selected on the basis of leadership, achievements, and impact on the buyers of insurance or benefits. She was one of only a handful of insurance and reinsurance attorneys recognized.

Ms. Dakin-Grimm’s notable contributions for 2007 include:

Successfully representing AIG Member Companies against a California-based reinsurance company that refused to reimburse the companies for millions of dollars paid to policyholders to settle 14 complex toxic and environmental cases.

Successfully representing Associated Accident and Health Reinsurance Underwriters (“AAHRU”), a pool of reinsurers composed of more than 15 companies, in a dispute that involved substantial financial losses to AAHRU from broker Sedgwick (now part of Marsh McLennan, broker in the U.S.), Bradstock (a broker in the United Kingdom now in liquidation). AAHRU filed against the Brokers for breach of contract, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and negligent misrepresentation.

Considerable involvement in improving the work environment for women in reinsurance and the legal profession. Recognizing that law firms often lose high quality women due to family obligations, she pioneered a reduced hours schedule for associates, which has allowed several women on her team to manage both motherhood and a demanding profession. In addition, Ms. Dakin-Grimm has organized informal roundtables to discuss the challenges of women in reinsurance and law.

Ms. Dakin-Grimm joined Milbank in 1999. She received her B.A., cum laude, from Yale University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1985
