Colleen E. McManus Joins Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Creditors’ Rights Practice Group at Much Shelist
Chicago-based law firm Much Shelist announced today the addition of Colleen E. McManus as Special Counsel in the firm's Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Creditors’ Rights practice group. McManus was previously an Associate with the Chicago office of DLA Piper, where she practiced for 10 years in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation.

McManus regularly represents creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees, debtors-in-possession, lessors and individuals in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, as well as business reorganizations and disputes involving the Uniform Commercial Code (Article 9) and lien priorities. She has particular experience advising developers, lenders, landlords, franchisors and other parties on bankruptcy-related lease issues, sales of assets (including 363 sales), benefits plans, contracts, preference actions, vendor relations, disputes with environmental agencies, and disputes with unions and pension funds. McManus also has significant trial and written advocacy experience in commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract, business torts, fraudulent transfers and claims objections.

McManus holds a J.D. degree from DePaul University College of Law and a B.A. degree (with honors) from Indiana University.

Martin Zoltick and Brian Rosenbloom to Teach Course on Software Patents
Martin Zoltick and Brian Rosenbloom, Members of the Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property law firm Rothwell, Figg, Ernst and Manbeck, returned for the third consecutive year to teach a course sponsored by the Computer and Telecommunication, Intellectual Property and Litigation Law Sections of the District of Columbia Bar. The course, entitled “Software Patent Primer: Acquisition, Exploitation, Enforcement, and Defense,” was part of the District of Columbia Bar Continuing Legal Education Program. The course focused on software, Internet and business method technologies; the process of acquiring patents and other forms of protection for these technologies; the forms of exploitation available for such technologies through licensing and other types of agreements; and how to prosecute and defend patent infringement suits involving such technologies. Also addressed were various strategies for developing and protecting a patent portfolio of software, Internet and business method technologies, which maximize the scope of protection for licensing and litigation, both domestically and abroad.

The Florida Bar Certifies Firm Partner, Norma Stanley, in Wills, Trusts, and Estates.
Norma Stanley has been notified by The Florida Bar that she is Board Certified in Wills, Trusts, and Estates. This identifies her as a lawyer with special knowledge, skills and proficiency in this practice area. The Bar also states that this designation is an indication of her ongoing commitment to high standards in her practice and that the public relies on the fact that board certified lawyers are preeminent in competence and ethics.

Fisher & Phillips 2007 SHRM Reception a Big Hit
Fisher & Phillips exhibited at this year’s national SHRM Conference and sponsored a reception June 25 at Caesars Palace for attendees. About 350 people attended the reception. Staff members Jackie Greenbaum and Ilene Hasforth helped to arrange the event. A strong contingent of attorneys was present: Mark Ricciardi, Shaun Haley, Scott Mahoney, Jeffrey Winchester, Christian Zinn from Las Vegas; Jim McDonald, John Polson, Mark Jacobs, Danielle Moore and Jeff Thurrell from Irvine; and Cheryl Behymer from Columbia.

McCormick Barstow partner Timothy J. Buchanan achieved a published appellate victory on July 31 by convincing the First Appellate District (San Francisco) to reverse an order on an important arbitration issue.

Holland & Hart Welcomes Geoff Barry
Holland & Hart is pleased to announce that Geoff Barry has joined the firm.

Geoff Barry is of counsel in the Business Department focusing on technology transfer. He represents emerging and established companies in technology and intellectual transactions. He counsels clients on the acquisition, protection, use, commercialization, and enforcement of technologies and accompanying intellectual property rights. Prior to joining Holland & Hart, he practiced at a large international firm. Previously, he managed technical projects for a government agency overseas.

Geoff Barry received his J.D. (1999) from the University of Colorado, where he was articles editor for the Colorado Journal of International Environmental Law and Policy, and his A.B. (1987) from Princeton University.

He will temporarily work from the firm's Denver office before transferring to the Boulder office.
