Greenberg Traurig Attorney Elected National Bar Association President for the 2008-2009 Term
Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced today that Rodney G. Moore, a member of the Atlanta Litigation, Labor & Employment and Media & Entertainment practices, was elected President of the National Bar Association for the 2008-2009 term. Moore is the first Georgia lawyer ever elected to serve as President of the National Bar Association in its 82 year history.

The National Bar Association, first organized in 1925, has a network of 22,000 members representing African-American members of the bar who are lawyers, judges, law professors and law students. The organization seeks to advance the science of jurisprudence, preserve the independence of the judiciary and to uphold the honor and integrity of the legal profession.

"Both as a member of the NBA and of Greenberg Traurig, I am proud of Rodney and his continued dedication to the National Bar Association," said Ernest L. Greer, incoming Co-Managing Shareholder of the Atlanta office and Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig Atlanta’s Litigation Group. "Greenberg Traurig attracts leaders in all fields of endeavor. Rodney’s significant commitment to the NBA for over 20 years, while at the same time developing a successful practice is what Greenberg Traurig is all about - lawyers who are business people and leaders. We salute Rodney in this honorable recognition and thank him and everyone at our firm committed to diversity initiatives throughout the firm."

Moore has been actively involved with the National Bar Association for more than 20 years. He’s served two terms as General Counsel, and served as Vice President for both Sections & Divisions and Regions & Affiliates. He helped strengthen the Atlanta chapter with fundraising and steering committee support. Moore also served as chair of the International Meetings with International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda War Crimes held in Arusha, Tanzania, and he received a Special Award of Merit by the National Bar Association in 1998.

"Rodney Moore will provide outstanding leadership during his tenure as the National Bar Association’s President," said Cesar Alvarez, CEO of Greenberg Traurig LLP. "Greenberg Traurig is committed to diversity in the workplace and this commitment is evident in the fact that we achieved the number one ranking in the United States based on number of minority partners in the Minority Law Journal's 2007 Diversity Scorecard. Greenberg Traurig has created an environment where every member of our firm, whether attorney, staff member, or individual, can excel regardless of their background or upbringing. We focus on building leaders and are confident that Rodney will foster that same focus on diversity in his role leading this dynamic association."

Moore represents clients in labor and employment, litigation and commercial transactions and has tried cases to verdict in both federal and state courts. He has participated in and negotiated numerous major transactions in both the public and private sector, including tax incremental funding, technology, public food service management, music publishing and recording, construction management and exclusive beverage agreements.

In addition to his work with the National Bar Association, Moore is a member of 100 Black Men of America’s Atlanta Chapter and has served in leadership positions on the National School Board Association, the Urban Law Commission, the Board of Visitors and Alumni Board for Santa Clara University School of Law and the San Jose Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as Trustee for the Santa Clara County Bar Association. Moore has lectured at a number of seminars and conferences, including the National Bar Association national conference, the National School Board Association and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. He has been recognized by his peers in the legal profession as one of the Best Lawyers in America in 2007, as well as the "Loran Miller Statewide California Attorney of the Year" in 1997. Moore received the Entrepreneurial Spirit Certificate of Recognition from the California Legislature Assembly in 1994. He earned his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from University of Washington.
