Armstrong Teasdale Significantly Expands its Intellectual Property Practice Adds Thirteen Professionals to Support Growing, National Practice Area
Armstrong Teasdale announced today that the firm has expanded its intellectual property practice with the addition of seven patent attorneys including four partners: Christopher M. Goff, Richard L. Bridge, Derick E. Allen, and Michael G. Munsell; three associates: Laura J. Hilmert, Jeannie M. Boettler, and Patrick E. Brennan; and six support staff professionals. These seven new attorneys complement the existing Armstrong Teasdale intellectual property practice, particularly in the chemical, biological, and mechanical arts. All formerly were with the St. Louis intellectual property firm of Senniger Powers.

"We are excited to add these talented lawyers and professionals to our firm," commented Michael A. Chivell, Armstrong Teasdale's Managing Partner. "Our intellectual property practice is one of our primary areas and a source of great strength for Armstrong Teasdale. Over the last 20 years, our clients' demand for legal services to protect their intellectual property assets has grown exponentially. Our clients continue to make significant investments in technology and other intellectual property; we have grown with them. The addition of these outstanding lawyers represents further evidence of our continuing commitment as the 'Go-To' Firm for all intellectual property needs."

Mr. Goff stated, "Armstrong Teasdale's presence in Missouri, plus its offices in other key cities with substantial patent work offers us greater resources and flexibility to provide our clients with the highest quality and most innovative counseling available." Armstrong Teasdale has strategically located offices in technology centers around the world including in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Shanghai, China.

With the addition of the seven lawyers, Armstrong Teasdale's Intellectual Property Practice Group grows nearly 30 percent to 59 professionals, including 32 lawyers, offering a full range of domestic and international patent, copyright, trademark, licensing, e-commerce, and intellectual property commercialization services to clients. Armstrong Teasdale has been named as one of the top law firms in the country for patent services by Intellectual Property Today magazine, and leads other Missouri firms in annual patent filings.

"Our new patent attorneys are among an elite group of intellectual property lawyers in St. Louis," stated Patrick W. Rasche, Intellectual Property Practice Group Leader. "These lawyers have extensive experience counseling clients on a wide variety of intellectual property issues, including strategic counseling, portfolio development and protection, due diligence, and opinions. Coupled with our talented intellectual property litigators, we are extremely well positioned to meet the growing needs of our clients for intellectual property services."

Christopher M. Goff has been practicing in the field of intellectual property law for more than 10 years and has significant experience in both domestic and foreign matters. In addition to preparing and prosecuting complex chemical and biochemical patent applications for a wide variety of clients, Goff participates in litigation and dispute counseling in the chemical, biochemical, and related arts. He also has noted experience in preparing and evaluating right to practice, invalidity, and related opinions.

Richard L. Bridge focuses his practice in the preparation, prosecution, licensing, and enforcement of mechanical-related patents. Bridge also has significant expertise in opinion drafting and evaluation of products and patents.

Derick E. Allen concentrates his practice primarily on the preparation and prosecution of chemical patent applications, including uses in such areas as semiconductor materials, polymeric materials, catalysis and pharmaceuticals.

Michael G. Munsell specializes in the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents relating to diverse technologies, including semiconductor wafer manufacturing, medical devices, sports and recreational equipment, and mine ventilation systems.

Incoming associates' practice will focus on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of fields, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical and mechanical. All seven lawyers are licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Pepper Hamilton Ranked Ninth Out of 164 Firms in American Lawyer’s Mid-Level Associates Survey
Pepper Hamilton LLP has been ranked ninth out of 164 law firms rated for associate job satisfaction in The American Lawyer’s annual mid-level associates survey. Pepper received particularly high scores in opportunities to work with partners, associate relations, benefits and compensation, collegiality, and openness regarding finances.

The survey ranks law firms from around the world based on associate satisfaction in a variety of categories. The rankings are based on responses from 7,172 third-, fourth- and fifth-year associates (law school classes of 2002, 2003 and 2004). The results were published in the August 2007 edition of The American Lawyer magazine.

For the second year in a row, Pepper placed first in the Pittsburgh market for mid-level associate job satisfaction. The firm placed second in Philadelphia. Of the AmLaw 100 firms, which are the top 100 firms ranked by revenue, Pepper ranked third in the survey.

“These results reflect well on the entire firm, not just our mid-levels who responded to the survey,” said Robert E. Heideck, Pepper’s executive partner. “Our associates’ hard work and commitment to the firm are remarkable. They are the future of this firm, and we are committed to their professional development and satisfaction.”

Last year, Pepper ranked 18th in the mid-level associates survey and, in 2005, it ranked 35th.

Scores are based on a one-to-five scale, with five being the highest. Pepper’s 2007 firm-wide ranking is 4.23, with its highest scores in opportunities to work with partners (4.81), associate relations (4.55), benefits and compensation (4.55), opportunities to socialize with partners (4.34), collegiality (4.33) and openness regarding finances (4.33)
