Fasken Martineau welcomes world leader in pharmaceutical law: Mtre Mathieu Gagné joins national Technology and Intellectual Property practice group
It is with great pleasure that Claude Auger, Managing Partner of the Montréal and Québec branches of law firm Fasken Martineau, announces the addition of Mathieu Gagné to the national Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group. Doctor in law and specialized in pharmaceutical law, Mr. Gagné has been advising various health-sector stakeholders for nearly ten years.

"Fasken Martineau is in the process of creating one of the biggest national teams in this domain, offering integrated services that are as much judicial as they are scientific. Mtre Gagné's contribution to the firm is major, both in terms of his expertise in health law, life sciences, litigation and commercial law, and in terms of his knowledge of various organizations related to these sectors of activity. Add to all this his experience in university research. He will thus significantly enrich the national life sciences group," stated Auger.

A seasoned lecturer and associate professor with Université de Québec à Montréal's management and technology department, Mtre Gagné is active on the world scene, working as a researcher for an international drug research team. Comprised of researchers from various disciplines (law, economics, marketing, etc.), this team analyzes the drug regulations of different countries. Mr. Gagné was also a member of the science committee of the 1er Congrès International sur le Médicament held in Montréal in 2005.

Mathieu Gagné is one of the few lawyers who is able to explain the various legal aspects of a drug, from its creation in a laboratory to its consumption. "Mtre Gagné possesses both general and specific knowledge of the standards with which the various pharmaceutical industry players must comply. Pharmaceutical companies, researchers, ethics committees, wholesalers, distributors, healthcare professionals, healthcare establishments, consumers and governments must contend with a complicated legislative and regulatory environment that Mathieu Gagné is extremely well acquainted with," commented Marek Nitoslawski, head of Fasken Martineau's national Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Called to the Bar in 1997, Mathieu Gagné is a prolific author whose doctoral dissertation was described as "a major contribution to the advancement of law." Mtre Gagné has participated in developing composite books, written a number of articles for trade journals, and published a work entitled Le droit des médicaments, which has gone on to become a health law reference document.

Hollywood comes to Grand Canal Dock
Whilst many could view the legal world as a stuffy, old-fashioned industry, with plenty of men in pin stripe suits, Mason Hayes+Curran has been trying to change that recently.

Having moved from Georgian Dublin to a purpose-built head office building in Grand Canal Dock, the firm has been opening its shiny new doors to several film crews wanting to use the firm’s new headquarters building as a backdrop for various storylines.

Recent TV appearances for South Bank House have included RTE News, a TV advertisement for a local broadband supplier and a two-part drama set in and around city centre Dublin.
