Brabec Joins Charles Clark Chapter of the American Inns of Court
Jackson Partner William C. Brabec has been invited to join the Charles Clark Chapter of the American Inns of Court. He will serve a three-year term as a Barrister. One of the primary purposes of the Charles Clark Chapter is to promote interaction between well-respected attorneys within the Jackson legal community and younger attorneys in order to help instill the ideals of civility and excellence.

Brabec serves as Team Leader of the Commercial Disputes Practice Team, and is a member of the firm’s Motor Carrier Emergency Response Team. While his practice is diverse, it consists primarily of representing business and insurance defendants in serious and/or complex cases in state and federal court. He has extensive experience in commercial litigation involving contractual disputes, trademark, fiduciaries, securities fraud, U.C.C., professional errors and omissions and director and officer liability. He is also experienced in the areas of insurance counseling and litigation for admitted, surplus lines and excess insurers, and reinsurers; banking and lender liability defense and the in the defense of businesses in environmental litigation. Brabec received both his Bachelor of Arts degree (1980) and his Juris Doctorate (1983) from the University of Mississippi. He is a frequent speaker on civil trial practice and procedure and insurance law and practice, and has been named in Mid-South Super Lawyers (Insurance Coverage).

Giants, Jets gain $1.3B financing for new stadium
A US$ 1.3 billion financing to build an 83,000-seat stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey for the NFL Giants and Jets was completed on August 16. The Jets' stadium affiliate borrowed US$ 650 million from Citigroup Inc. and the Royal Bank of Canada, and the Giants' stadium affiliate borrowed the same amount from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. The new facility will be constructed near Giants Stadium and is scheduled to open in 2010. The Giants-Jets stadium will be the most expensive in U.S. history. The Giants plan to build a 20-acre training complex in the southwest corner of the development, and the Jets are building new practice facilities and corporate headquarters on 20 acres in Florham Park.

Salans advises Bauwert Property Group on merger with apellas Property Management
Salans has advised Bauwert Property Group GmbH, Berlin, and their managing partners Jürgen Leibfried and Patrick Reich on the merger with apellas Property Management GmbH, Berlin.

The founders and Managing Directors of Bauwert Property Group together with the partners of the apellas group took over the shares of the majority shareholders in Bauwert Property Group and merged to apellasbauwert property.

The new group will combine 25 years of expertise of investing in the German real estate market which has so far amassed an investment and development volume of approximately €4 billion.

The required capital for the investments will be provided by Redwood Grove International LP, a global fund with 2 billion US-Dollar net worth.

The team advising Bauwert Property Group was led by Salans partner Dr. Christof Kautzsch and also included sozius Dr. Daniel Barth, tax partner Michael Helm, sozius Dr. Bernd Schumann, as well as associates Dirk Schoene and Markus Thewes.

Stephen F. Herbes practices in Riker Danzig's Tax and Trusts & Estates groups. He has extensive experience in federal income taxation and estate planning, including planning for closely held and public corporations. Mr. Herbes is a licensed CPA and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. He earned his B.A. from the University of Portland in 1997, his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2001 and his LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2007. Prior to joining Riker Danzig, Mr. Herbes was an associate with Lowenstein Sandler P.C. of Roseland. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Oregon and New Jersey.

Douglas L. Sanders is an associate in Riker Danzig's Insurance Group. His areas of concentration include education and political consulting. Mr. Sanders earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2003 and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2005. Prior to joining Riker Danzig, Mr. Sanders was an associate with Cooper Levenson April Niedelman & Wagenheim, P.A of Atlantic City. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.

Foley Hoag Secures $10.7M Award for CytoLogix Corporation
After a three-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, CytoLogix Corporation, a medical device company formerly operating out of Cambridge, Massachusetts, received a jury verdict of $10.7M in damages in patent infringement claims against Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. CytoLogix Corporation's technologies contain unique slide-staining methods used by pathologists in the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases.

CytoLogix Corporation was founded by Dr. Steven A. Bogen, a pathologist affiliated with the Boston University School of Medicine. Jack R. Pirozzolo and Vickie L. Henry of Foley Hoag LLP led the CytoLogix trial team. Litigation on the CytoLogix family of patents covering this diagnostic technology is expected to continue. Its competitor, Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. is a Tucson, Arizona-based medical device company.

Corrigan and Kass to Receive Honors from The Missouri Bar
The Missouri Bar Foundation has announced that William M. Corrigan, Jr. and Michael B. Kass will receive the 2006 W. Oliver Rasch Award for writing the outstanding Bar Journal article of the year. Corrigan and Kass co-authored "Non-Compete Agreements and Unfair Competition: An Updated Overview," which appeared in the April/May 2006 edition of the Journal of The Missouri Bar. Subsequently, in its first non-compete decision in over 20 years, the Missouri Supreme Court cited the article “for a comprehensive discussion of the issues surrounding the use of non-compete agreements.” The Award will officially be presented at The Missouri Bar Annual Meeting Awards Dinner on September 28, 2007.
