Adams and Reese Attorney Named White House Fellow
A few months ago, Bedouin Joseph was a rising star at Adams and Reese, the largest law firm in the Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee region. A complex litigation and class action attorney, he has represented Fortune 100 clients in civil actions involving claims of property contamination, exposure to radiation and hazardous chemicals.

Already poised with a bright future, Joseph’s stellar career path reached new heights when he was named by President George Bush to the 2006-2007 Class of White House Fellows this summer. One of only 14 selected for the most prestigious leadership class in the country, Joseph is following in the footsteps of some of the country’s foremost leaders such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Joseph is the only New Orleanian selected for this distinction this year.

This week, the class of White House Fellows will visit New Orleans to meet with key political, business and civic leaders, including Mayor C. Ray Nagin and former Jefferson Parish President Tim Coulon, to learn more about the plight of the city and to explore strategies for the recovery. Adams and Reese will honor Bedouin and the White House Fellows at a private reception at Adams and Reese’s One Shell Square office on Wednesday, November 15th at 6:00 pm. Attorneys Jeff Brooks, partner in charge of the Washington, D.C. office, and Paul Pastorek, former Bush appointment as general counsel to NASA, are assisting the White House staff in scheduling the New Orleans area meetings. The White House Fellows will be in New Orleans through Friday, November 17th.

According to Joseph, “It is indeed a privilege for me to return to New Orleans and, from a different perspective, learn more about how a city recovers from a disaster such as Katrina, how municipalities can work synergistically and how the resilience of a community is the cornerstone of rebuilding.”

Brooks says, “We at Adams and Reese are so proud that Bedouin was selected a White House Fellow. With his commitment to public service, he joins the ranks of other Adams & Reese attorneys who are serving the public.”

Other Adams and Reese notables include James “Jimmy” A. Hayes, former U.S. Congressman; E. L. “Bubba” Henry, former Speaker of the LA House of Representatives; Ronald J. Sholes, former District Court Judge in Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans; Paul G. Pastorek, former President of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education; and Tim P. Coulon, former Jefferson Parish President, who is now serving as Chairman of the Louisiana Superdome Commission and as a member of the Louisiana Recovery Authority.

The White House Fellows Program, founded in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, offers exceptional young men and women first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the Federal government. White House Fellows typically spend one year working as full-time, paid special assistants to senior White House Staff, Cabinet Secretaries, and other top-ranking government officials. Fellows also participate in an education program consisting of roundtable discussions with leaders from the private and public sectors, and trips to study U.S. policy in action both domestically and abroad. Following the Fellowship year, many Fellows repay the privilege by contributing to the Nation as better leaders and public servants.

Joseph explains, “I hope to use the incredible experience I have gained, the network of people I have met and the ideas the White House Fellows program has fostered to return to New Orleans with the capacity and resourcefulness to create opportunities for people of all walks of life.”

The White House Fellows Program is one of the Nation's most prestigious programs for leadership and public service. Selection as a White House Fellow is highly competitive and based on a record of remarkable professional achievement, evidence of leadership skills, a strong commitment to public service, and the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute successfully at the highest levels of the Federal government. The Program has fostered leaders in many fields, including the aforementioned Powell, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, former CNN President Tom Johnson, Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange Marshall Carter, United Nations Foundation President and former U.S. Senator Timothy Wirth, and U.S. Senator Samuel Brownback.

The 2006-2007 Class of White House Fellows represents a diverse cross-section of professions including medicine, law, finance, education and state government. Additionally, three branches of the military are represented among the Fellows.
