LaSalle-led Group Provides $115M in Loans to Block 37
Crain's Chicago Business reported on Schwartz Cooper's involvement in LaSalle Bank N.A.'s new Block 37 financing deal on November 15, 2006.

Schwartz Cooper assisted LaSalle to close a $106 million syndicated senior loan facility and a $9 million mezzanine loan facility. These loans will be used to build and develop the office building located at 22 W. Washington St., part of Chicago's Block 37.

Scheduled to open in 2008, the office building is just one component of the mixed-use project under way at Block 37. WBBM-TV/Channel 2 and Morningstar Inc. have already signed long-term leases to occupy 80 percent of the 440,000-square-foot building.

According to Michael Kurtzon, LaSalle Bank's lead attorney for this deal, "If nothing ever gets built besides [this building], it is fully self-sufficient in terms of construction and so forth.

ABA Teleconference: Carbon Disclosure Requirements, Socially Responsible Investing, and Their Impact on the Growth of Renewables
Pierce Atwood LLP's Energy Practice Group invites you to join us on Wednesday, November 15th for the next monthly national teleconference presented by The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) in collaboration with the American Bar Association Section on Environment, Energy, Resources Renewable Energy Committee and Special Committee on Energy and Environmental Finance.

One of the factors driving the growth of renewable energy in the United States is the interest of corporate shareholders and other investors. This teleconference will explore the requirements for disclosure of energy- and carbon-related risks to shareholders stemming from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and changes in accounting practices. Panelists will also discuss the nature and magnitude of the investments (such as public equity and private equity) that are being made in renewables; some of the reasons these investments are being made; and the effect they have on the overall renewables picture. The roles of social investment and shareholder activism will also be explored.

Key Topics to be Discussed:

* Help attendees understand the black letter law of carbon disclosure
* Provide insights into the flow of private and public equity into renewables
* Give up-to-date reports on the role that organized shareholders are playing
* Assist in identifying sources of investment capital for renewables
