O'Melveny Represents Clear Shape Technologies In Sale To Cadence Design Systems
O'Melveny & Myers LLP announced today that they represented Clear Shape Technologies, Inc., a leader in variability analysis and optimization solutions, in its sale to Cadence Design Systems, a leader in global electronic-design innovation.

The O'Melveny & Myers team included Silicon Valley's Warren Lazarow, Paul Sieben, Sofia Lou, and Sandy Wang. Additional support was provided by Silicon Valley's Paul Meyer on IP matters, Los Angeles' Robert Fisher on tax matters, and San Francisco's Derek Windham on executive compensation matters.

Two New Attorneys Join Davis Wright Tremaine’s San Francisco Office: Gabrielle B. Goldstein and April L. Weaver Bolster Office’s Growing Health Care, Employment Practices
Gabrielle B. Goldstein and April L. Weaver have joined Davis Wright Tremaine’s (DWT) San Francisco office as associates. Goldstein joins DWT's well-known health care practice group, where her practice will focus on licensing and regulatory issues for biotechnology companies, health care providers, and health care technology clients. Weaver joins the office’s growing employment law group, where she will focus her practice on providing advice and counsel to employers on labor and employment law issues. Both are licensed to practice in California.

Goldstein comes to DWT from Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, where she was an associate. Prior to her experience at Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, she served as a legal extern for Harvard Medical School and as a law clerk for The Hon. Emily Jane Goodman of the New York State Supreme Court. An active practitioner in the health care industry, Goldstein is a contributing author of a chapter in Matthew Bender Health Law and maintains active roles in the American Health Lawyers Association and the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys. She received her JD from Boston University School of Law in 2006, with a certificate in Health Law, with honors, and a BA in philosophy from University of California at Berkeley in 2003.

Weaver joins DWT from Burton, Volkmann & Schmal LLP, where she was an associate. Before her tenure at Burton, Volkmann & Schmal, she was a staff attorney with the National Labor Relations Board’s Office of the General Counsel. Weaver received her JD from University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003, cum laude and her BA in sociology and psychology from University of California at Santa Cruz in 2000.

Carlton Fields Attorneys Appointed to Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board
Carlton Fields Tampa attorney, Mark P. Rankin, was appointed to Editor-in-Chief of the American Bar Association’s Criminal Litigation Committee publication, Criminal Litigation. In addition, Tampa attorney, Rachel R. May has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the Newsletter.

The Criminal Litigation Committee of the ABA focuses on the defense and prosecution of complex white collar cases and regulatory enforcement matters. Substantive fields covered by the committee's jurisdiction include procurement fraud, banking offenses, tax fraud, securities offenses, environmental crimes, program fraud and forfeitures, economic crimes and official corruption, and civil and criminal RICO. Procedural areas include grand jury reform, government investigative procedures, and guideline sentencing. Articles, case studies, and other news pertaining to this area of law are included in the quarterly newsletters. Criminal Litigation is distributed nationwide to all members of the ABA Criminal Litigation Committee.

Rankin practices in the firm’s White Collar Crime and Government Investigations Practice Group. Prior to joining Carlton Fields, he was an Assistant Federal Public Defender with the Federal Public Defender’s Office, where he served as a trial and appellate counsel to criminal defendants charged with a wide range of cases including fraud offenses, drug offenses, immigration matters, and firearms offenses. Rankin received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1999 and his B.S. in Criminal Justice, magna cum laude, from Old Dominion University in 1996.

Also practicing in the firm’s White Collar Crime and Government Investigations Practice Group, May has represented criminal defendants charged with various crimes, including firearms offenses, drug offenses, fraud offenses, immigration offenses and computer offenses. She has tried cases in the Federal District Court, as well as argued appellate cases in front of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. May received her B.A., cum laude, from St. Lawrence University in 2002 and her J.D., cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law in 2004.

Spar Says Biotech Presence Developing in Baltimore
Robert A. Spar, a Partner and Co-Chair of the Life Sciences Transactions and Strategic Alliances group, was quoted in this article about the current and future state of the life sciences law field in Maryland, a rapidly forming "biotech capital."

“We think the future in Baltimore is going to be biotech in the next three to five years,” Mr. Spar said. “We do actively recruit lateral attorneys with life science experience and we pull different expertise from around the firm.”

Tishman Speyer has sold "Eurosquare" to a real estate fund managed by Hines:
Hines Pan-European Core Fund won the invitation to tender launched by Tishman Speyer Strategic Office Fund for the sale, by share deal, of a office building known as "Eurosquare" located in Saint-Ouen.

“Eurosquare" is a property offering 15 421 m² of office space and 356 parking spaces distributed over seven floors, and is fully leased to a subsidiary of Gaz de France.

Tishman Speyer was advised by Gide Loyrette Nouel (Eric Martin-Impératori and Hugues Moreau) on the corporate and transactional aspects of the deal and by Baker & McKenzie (Olivier Mesmin and Christine Daric) on the tax issues. The purchaser was advised by Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw (Jean-Pierre Lee and Arnaud Lecoeur).
