Gloria L. Freye, a partner in the Richmond office of McGuireWoods LLP, has been named to the Virginia Commonwealth University’s “Real Estate Circle of Excellence.” Some of Virginia’s most distinguished business executives, including real estate developers, brokers, mortgage professionals, appraisers and attorneys have been named to the circle.

A member of McGuireWoods’ Real Estate & Environmental Department, Freye has extensive experience in land use, zoning and commercial real estate transactions. Her clients include banks, national retailers, hotels, restaurant chains, manufacturers, developers, builders and communications companies.

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Real Estate Circle of Excellence was founded about 20 years ago to support the school’s undergraduate and graduate real estate degree programs. Additionally, they put on the annual Real Estate Trends Conference which attracts more than 800 real estate professionals from across the nation.

“This honor befits Gloria, whose many notable achievements, both in her profession and her service to the community, set her apart,” says Robert L. Burrus, chairman of McGuireWoods. “The university and its students will be enriched by her work with them.”

Fulbright & Jaworski Opens Denver Office
The international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. has opened a Denver office to further serve energy companies active in the Rockies.

"It's important that Fulbright be on the ground in Denver to help our clients expedite energy development while protecting the outstanding environmental qualities found in the Rockies," said Steven B. Pfeiffer, Chair of Fulbright's Executive Committee. "We understand the structures and risks energy companies face in the U.S. and abroad. Denver is an important place for our attorneys to have a permanent presence in order to best serve our current and future clients."

The new Denver office broadens Fulbright's services in energy litigation, regulatory compliance, and energy transactions. Fulbright operates offices in other locations strategic to the energy industry, including in Texas, Washington, D.C., New York, California, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Fulbright's Energy Practice Group has approximately 250 lawyers throughout its 16 offices.

"Over 70 years, we have developed vast experience in legal issues affecting the energy industry," said Fulbright partner Jeff Dykes, who will head the firm's Denver office. "Fulbright attorneys are experienced in handling matters from every sector of the energy industry - exploration and production; gathering, transportation and distribution; refining and petrochemical manufacturing; trading and marketing; power generation and alternative energy, including wind power."

Fulbright's experienced energy attorneys in Denver will be joined by Ken Wonstolen, who has long served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the Colorado Oil & Gas Association. Wonstolen, who starts with Fulbright in January, will serve as senior counsel. He has three decades of experience in energy policy and law. Wonstolen has worked as a trade association executive, and as both outside and in-house counsel to a number of oil and gas clients.

"The opening of Fulbright's Denver office offers a great opportunity to expand the range of my service to the Rocky Mountain energy industry. Fulbright's impressive energy experience and expansive national and international presence provides an ideal platform to grow my practice," Wonstolen said. "By combining forces with Fulbright, a firm known for its energy expertise, I'm better able to serve the industry I've dedicated my career to."

Fulbright has a substantial practice before federal agencies involved in energy development and environmental protection. The addition of Wonstolen, who has practiced before the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and the Colorado Department of Health & Environment further enhances that capability at the state level.

"Ken's experience helps clients reduce regulatory delays," said Fulbright Partner Poe Leggette, head of the firm's Western Lands and Energy Practice. "We like to focus on environmental protection early in the process, so we can shorten the time it takes a company to find and develop a prospect."

Senior associate Bret Sumner, also resident in the firm's Denver office, works with Leggette and will work with Wonstolen in helping clients address energy and natural resource matters
