SCOTT SHEAN APPOINTED OFFICE MANAGING PARTNER OF LATHAM & WATKINS' ORANGE COUNTYOFFICE
Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that R. Scott Shean has been appointed the new Office Managing Partner of the firm's Orange County office effective January 1, 2007. He succeeds Virginia S. Grogan, who has held that position since 1997 and is retiring from active law practice at the end of 2006.

A member of the firm since 1994, Shean has served as a local Co-Chair of the Corporate Department in Latham's Orange County office for the past year. He also is a founder of the firm's General Counsel Forum series, which regularly gathers corporate leaders to discuss important legal and business issues of the day. Shean will maintain his highly active practice advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general corporate and securities matters. His clients have included such prominent local and international companies as: Health Care Property Investors, Inc.; Harrah's Entertainment, Inc.; ICOS Corporation; Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Amgen, Inc. This August, he represented Costa Mesa-based FileNet Corporation in its acquisition by IBM in an all-cash transaction of approximately $1.6 billion.

“Having advised industry-leading companies in Orange County and beyond, Scott truly has his finger on the pulse of the local economy, and within the firm he has been a great team builder and role model,” said Robert M.Dell, Chairman and Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins, adding, “We also are deeply grateful to Virginia Grogan, who has been with the firm for 27 years and who guided the Orange County office to new levels of growth and success.”

“Latham & Watkins has played a prominent role over the past two decades in the phenomenal growth of Orange County as it has developed into a prosperous business and financial center, and we represent many of the county's largest and fastest growing corporations,” said Shean. “Thanks to the strong leadership of Virginia and the diverse skills of our attorneys and staff, we are well positioned to expand our local presence and to bring the firm's global resources to bear on this dynamic market.”

Latham's OrangeCountyoffice houses 85 attorneys, 22 of whom are partners of the firm, and 91 administrative personnel. In addition to providing outstanding legal counsel to a range of industry-leading clients, the office is recognized as a local leader in providing pro bono counsel and community service.
