Chris Weinmann Recognized as Volunteer of the Month
The KCBA's Community Legal Services has recognized Christian C. Weinmann as its Volunteer of the Month for November 2006. Weinmann has been a volunteer at the Seattle Emergency Housing Service (SEHS) legal clinic since 2001. As a dedicated advocate for the homeless community, Weinmann has helped numerous clients seeking legal services.

An associate at Karr Tuttle Campbell in Seattle, Weinmann practices in the areas of corporate, creditor/debtor and bankruptcy law. Through the encouragement and support of Karr Tuttle Campbell, Weinmann has been able to volunteer at the clinic several times a year and take on cases for direct representation. In a recent case, he helped a client facing brain surgery and possible death to prepare a will and other testamentary documents.

Weinmann volunteers at the SEHS legal clinic because it provides him with an opportunity to help homeless clients who have legal issues, but very limited access to legal services given their circumstances. The clients he assists are always grateful even though in some situations there may be little advice to offer. At times, he feels that he can do more good in two hours at the SEHS legal clinic than he can in two weeks for paying clients.

In addition to volunteering at SEHS, Weinmann has volunteered at the KCBA's Downtown Debt Clinic for the past three years and is currently the attorney coordinator for the clinic. In connection with his work for the Debt Clinic, Weinmann sits on the Board of Consumer Education and Training Services (CENTS), a local non-profit organization dedicated to empowering consumers, through education and training, to take control of their serious financial situations.

Weinmann's commitment to pro bono work extends far beyond what is asked of volunteers. His commitment to serving the community is highly commendable and he is a very valuable asset to Legal Services for the Homeless.

Legal Services for the Homeless partners law firms with homeless shelters throughout King County to provide legal services to homeless clients with general civil matters and has facilitated access to legal services for hundreds of homeless clients in King County. This unique partnership works to break down the barriers that homeless individuals face in accessing legal services.
