Fasken Martineau Awarded Arts-Affaires 2006 Citation
On November 30, Fasken Martineau was awarded a citation of excellence as part of the Prix Arts-Affaires, a joint initiative of the Board of Trade of Montreal and the Conseil des arts de Montréal. This is the first time that a citation of excellence has been awarded as part of this contest, which aims to reward businesses and individuals who have lent their support to Montréal art and cultural organizations.

Fasken Martineau was commended for its encouragement and unconditional support of Quartier Éphémère, an organization devoted to helping young visual artists. Quartier Éphémère restored the old Darling Foundry in Faubourg aux Récollets, where it created an exhibition space, the Café Cluny and a number of art studios. Maurice Forget, a partner with the firm who is well known for his involvement in the cultural scene, understood the importance of this organization as soon as it was founded in 1994; he then convinced his colleagues to get involved. These include partner Claude Gendron, who currently chairs the board of directors, as well as Isabelle Durand and Isabelle Dongier, also lawyers with the firm. Quartier Éphémère's director, Caroline Andrieux, nominated Fasken Martineau because she wanted to acknowledge that the firm's support in a time of crisis helped straighten out the Darling Foundry's complicated construction records, assuaged grantors and allowed the organization to continue its mission.

The jury of the contest also emphasized the incredible support the firm has lent the Montréal cultural community over the past fifty-odd years, thanks to the efforts of the exceptional number of partners who have been personally involved. In fact, no less than forty or so partners from Montréal volunteer in the cultural sphere, acting on the boards of directors of organizations in music, theatre, dance, the visual arts and other forms of expression, often in the capacity of chairperson. This type of support dates back to the 1960s, when Jean Martineau presided over the Canada Council for the Arts and Jean-Claude Delorme and Roger Beaulieu, two major art patrons who are both now deceased, were young members of the firm.
