Martin Toulouse Joins Global Projects Group at Baker Botts
Martin Toulouse, who has represented domestic and foreign corporations and financial institutions in a broad range of private and public financial transactions, has joined the Global Projects Group at Baker Botts as Special Counsel. He will be based in the firm's New York office.

Toulouse, 35, has a wealth of experience in handling project financings, with particular emphasis in the energy sector. Toulouse also has significant experience in other areas of finance, including acquisition finance, highly leveraged transactions and LBO and structured financings. He has represented companies, sponsors, lenders, underwriters and credit enhancers in all these areas. Prior to joining Baker Botts, Toulouse had been a Counsel at Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York.

The move to Baker Botts reunites Toulouse with Bill Giusti, a firm partner in the New York office who is considered a leading international project finance lawyer. Giusti joined Baker Botts from Shearman & Sterling earlier this year.

"Martin joins a Project Finance team at Baker Botts that is developing into one of the strongest in the industry," said Walt Smith, Baker Botts' Managing Partner. "Toulouse will enhance the firm's capabilities in complex and sophisticated finance transactions, especially project finance, which is essential as we strengthen our position as the world's leading energy law firm with a major presence in the New York financial community."

Baker Botts lawyers have a broad range of experience in the project finance area. The firm has been involved in matters that encompass all aspects of the BTU value chain, including oil and gas exploration and development projects, oil and gas pipeline and processing facilities, power plants, LNG export and import terminals, drilling rigs, vessels, floating production storage and off-loading systems (FPSOs) and transportation systems, refineries and petrochemical facilities. The firm has also been extensively involved in the project financing of water projects, airports, factories and other infrastructure.

"Martin's experience in handling major transactions inside and outside the energy sector enhances our ability to handle the increasing number of project and private finance deals that we are being asked to manage," Giusti said. "I look forward to renewing the productive working relationship I had with Martin when we were both at Shearman & Sterling and to expand the services in finance and project finance that we can provide to our corporate and financial institution clients worldwide."

Toulouse earned his LL.M. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley in 1997 and served as a law clerk for the Supreme Court of Canada. He earned his B.C.L. (civil law) and LL.B. (common law) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and he has a Maitrise en droit, international and EU Law, with Mention, from the Universite Paris II, Pantheon-Assas, in Paris, France.
