Fulbright Joins Houston Lawyers to Bring Holiday Cheer to Elementary Students
Fulbright teamed up with Bracewell to bring holiday cheer to 1250 students at Grimes and Petersen Elementary. Fulbright attorney Kirsten Hetzel Wilson served as co-chair along with Bracewell attorney Christopher L. Dodsom on the Houston Young Lawyers Association’s Adopt an Angel Committee.

The committee rounded up 1,600 Houston lawyers and administrators to volunteer with teachers to create a winter wonderland for the elementary school students.

The Adopt an Angel Program was established the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation, through the Houston Young Lawyers Association, to deliver holiday cheer to inner-city, elementary-aged children.

Volunteers spent several weeks shopping, wrapping and assembling gifts for a total donation of more than $50,000. Each child received a personalized holiday bag from Santa Claus. And for the first time, the Adopt an Angel Program had more volunteers than children -- approximately 400 more. To spread the joy even further, the committee adopted 400 more children from House of Tiny Treasures and Casa de Esperanza.

Lumish, along with attorneys from Greenberg Traurig and Squire Sanders, was a winner in the Appellate category as part of a team that won a reversal of the judgment in a major tobacco case. Reid was a finalist in the Pro Bono category for his excellent work in a high-profile civil rights case.

Lumish concentrates her practice in appellate law and complex litigation. She is certified as a specialist in appellate law by The Florida Bar. Government Relations Director Wiltraut Quoted on Effect of Democrat-Controlled Congress on Armed Services Committee
James C. Wiltraut, a member of the Federal Government Relations Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, was quoted in the November 9, 2006, edition of Defense Daily Network. Wiltraut is a director in the firm's Washington, D.C., office.

A Democratic House will mean a "more measured approach" to the war in Iraq, Wiltraut told the publication. He noted that most of the top Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee have been in the military or have a son or daughter in uniform. That military experience means it is unlikely that the committee will push for a quick pullout of U.S. troops, he said.

While saying that it will be up to President Bush to define success in Iraq, Wiltraut told Defense Daily Network that the approach is likely to include U.S. withdrawal. The defense industry will need to respond to whatever form the battlefield takes, he added.
