Jenner & Block Supports CVLS at Race Judicata
Nearly 20 attorneys and staff members recently participated in the 14th annual Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation (CVLS) “Race Judicata Sprint for Justice 5K Run & Walk,” held along Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago.

The CVLS raised a record-breaking $150,000 at last year’s race and, thanks to the participation of over 3,000 runners and walkers, surpassed that amount in 2007.

“With our support and participation, CVLS had its most successful Race Judicata yet, and raised substantial funds to support its efforts to provide pro bono help to Chicago's working poor,” said Partner Daniel J. Winters, Captain of the Firm’s team. “Jenner & Block has once again showed its strong support for the CVLS and its outstanding work for the Chicago community,” he added.

Since 1964, the CVLS has offered quality free legal services to low income Chicagoans who could not otherwise afford access to the law. Proceeds from Race Judicata will support the CVLS’s mission.

Verrilli Recognized in The Hollywood Reporter ESQ.’s “Top 100 Power Lawyers” List
Jenner & Block Partner Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., was recognized as one of the “best and brightest entertainment and media lawyers in the country” by The Hollywood Reporter, ESQ. and The Hollywood Reporter in its inaugural "Power Lawyers" issue, dated July, 2007.

Mr. Verrilli was honored in the Litigation category for “handling high-stakes and precedent-setting cases influencing the industry.” The magazine highlighted his work as the lead attorney in the landmark MGM v. Grokster case in which he successfully argued that Web sites facilitating illegal file-sharing of copyrighted material can be liable for copyright infringement. The magazine also mentioned his current work on behalf of Viacom against Google’s YouTube and his representation of content owners in a lawsuit challenging XM Satellite Radio's allowing users to make copies of music transmitted over its airwaves.

Harvey Geller, Universal Music Group Senior VP of Business and Legal Affairs, told The Hollywood Reporter, ESQ. that, "Don's intellect is humbling, but his greatest strength is having a humble ego."

The list of “Top 100 Power Lawyers” is divided into categories including Talent, Litigation, Corporate, IP/Technology, Government and Labor. The Hollywood Reporter, ESQ. began initial research for the “Power Lawyers” issue by surveying its readers, asking entertainment and media lawyers and business affairs executives nationwide to nominate the most influential attorneys in various categories. The magazine also solicited input from top lawyers and executives at studios, networks, music labels, talent agencies and law firms, asking whose work they admired.
