NEW EDITION OF SIEGRUN KANE'S TRADEMARK BOOK TO BE PUBLISHED
The Practising Law Institute will publish a new fifth edition of Siegrun Kane's book, Kane on Trademark Law, A Practitioner's Guide, this fall. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the publication, with supplements issued annually. Copies will be available from PLI at www.pli.edu.

Wendy Denton Heleen speaks as part of Rep. Randy Vulakovich’s Older and Wiser Seminars
Wendy Denton Heleen spoke before a group of approximately 80 people as part of Rep. Randy Vulakovich’s free Older and Wiser Seminars. These seminars, presented as a public service by Neighborhood Legal Services Association and co-sponsored by county Southwestern Pennsylvania Legal Services Consortium, targeted older adults, their families and their caregivers.

Wendy, a private attorney volunteer, spoke on the topics of wills, trusts and probate. Her goal was to alleviate misconceptions and misunderstandings to give her audience a better overall understanding of wills trusts and probate, so they could make more informed decisions when planning for the disposition of their assets upon death.

Wendy specializes in all matters relating to planning our incapacity and death, including estate and trust documents. She advises her clients in regards to probate and non-probate matters and planning to minimize income, gift, Federal estate and state inheritance tax. When a death occurs, Wendy advises the decendant’s family members on administration procedures, including the preparation of death tax returns and the establishment of trusts.

Garvey Schubert Barer Expands Government Contracts Practice in Washington, D.C. Office
Garvey Schubert Barer is pleased to announce that Matthew C. Hoyer has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as an Associate in the Government Contracts group. He advises clients on a variety of issues relating to doing business with federal, state and local government. He counsels and resolves disputes arising from the award and performance of government contracts. Mr. Hoyer is also experienced in the areas of transportation (with an emphasis on government transportation), litigation (in administrative hearings, trials and appellate cases), and labor and employment law.

Prior to joining Garvey Schubert Barer, Mr. Hoyer was an attorney with the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) where he provided counsel on transportation procurements under the Federal Acquisition Regulation and tenders of service as well as labor and employment matters. Prior to that, Mr. Hoyer served over six years on active duty with the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Air Force, including an overseas assignment in Korea, where he advised clients on a diverse array of matters including criminal cases, government contracts, fiscal law, tort claims, labor and employment law, military operations, the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, and government ethics.

He earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1999. He earned B.A.s in both History and Political Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Rochester in 1996, where he was also Phi Beta Kappa. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New York and Massachusetts.

Barry Gross Named to Pennsylvania Supreme Court Hearing Committee
Barry Gross, a partner in the White Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations practice, was recently appointed to a three-year term as a hearing committee member for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He will serve as a volunteer in the Philadelphia area (District 1), after which he may be reappointed for another term. While serving on the committee, members are asked to review determinations made by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel and hear cases of violations that may warrant removing the lawyer from practice.

Before joining the firm, Barry was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for 24 years where he was recognized on numerous occasions by the U.S. Justice Department for his work.
