Lovita Tandy Chairs King & Spalding's Diversity Committee
King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, has named Lovita Tandy chair of the firm’s diversity committee. Tandy will be responsible for continuing to improve and implement the firm’s diversity strategies and training, working with minority and female attorneys on specific development and advancement plans, and working with practice group leaders to ensure execution of diversity strategies.

Tandy, a labor and employment partner in the firm’s business litigation practice group, succeeds Kevin R. Sullivan, whose term ended in 2006. Sullivan is a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C.-based antitrust practice.

King & Spalding’s diversity committee includes firm leaders and has directed action to advance diversity both within the firm and in the legal profession as a whole, including increasing the number of women and minorities hired, providing diversity training to the firm’s attorneys, creating a mentoring program and committing funds to a minority scholarship program. In 2006, the committee also hosted its first minority attorney retreat and launched the King & Spalding Diversity Fellowship Program. The fellowship provides a $10,000 stipend and summer clerkship to up to four students each year.

The committee has helped the firm win acclaim for its diversity efforts, including being ranked 16th in the nation for diversity by MultiCultural Law Magazine based on the diversity of the firm’s lawyers, mentoring program and the commitment of the firm’s leadership to diversity.

Tandy’s practice focuses on traditional labor law, employment discrimination litigation, and employment related contractual disputes. She is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections and the Litigation Sections of the American, Georgia and Atlanta Bar Associations and of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and the National Employment Law Council. She is former vice president of the Atlanta Anti-Prejudice Awareness Consortium.

“Our diversity committee has continued to make significant strides, and Lovita is committed to continuing that momentum in advancing our diversity initiatives,” says Robert D. Hays, Jr., chairman of King & Spalding. “Achieving a work environment that encourages diversity is a fundamental core value of King & Spalding.

Prominent Litigator Joseph P. Klock, Jr., Joins Epstein Becker & Green
Epstein Becker & Green announced today that nationally prominent lawyer Joseph P. Klock, Jr., who played a key role in the legal battles surrounding the presidential election in 2000, has joined the Firm in its Miami office.

For EBG, the addition of Klock is a major reinforcement of the Firm’s already strong presence in the Southeast, as well as nationally.

“Joe Klock brings to EBG extraordinary litigation and business law experience, which will further enhance the services and value we can provide clients,” said the Firm’s managing partner, George Sape.

EBG’s litigation and business law practices comprise two of the Firm’s five core practice groups, which also include health and life sciences; labor and employment; and real estate. With the addition of Klock, EBG’s Miami office, along with the Firm’s Atlanta office, continues the Firm’s fast growth in the Southeast.

Klock, who headed Miami-based Steel Hector & Davis for 25 years prior to its merger with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP, litigates civil, criminal, appellate and administrative cases in federal and state courts. He also led Steel Hector’s seven-office Latin America practice. Klock successfully represented the State of Florida in the legal battles surrounding the contested presidential election of 2000, which went to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Joe Klock will be an integral part of the EBG team in Miami,” said Michael W. Casey III, managing partner of EBG’s Miami office. “In Florida, and across the Southeastern United States, which is an important and fast-growing market for legal services, we now have an even greater range of service capabilities. In Latin America, where Joe regularly serves clients, and for the U.S. interests of his clients, we are reaffirming EBG’s strong commitment to the region.”

Klock’s practice also encompasses a wide range of legal areas for private client and family groups, including corporate litigation, transactions and structurings in the U.S. and Latin America, trusts and estates, immigration and criminal law.

“EBG provides sophisticated legal services for clients having a broad array of geographical and skill-set needs,” said Klock. “I’m excited by the Firm’s vision, entrepreneurial spirit and community sensitivity, as well as its commitment to practices that are the fastest-growing in today’s legal and business markets. I look forward to the opportunity to join the Miami office and the entire EBG national litigation and business law practices.

Jim Glover Exhibits Works at Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP
The law firm of Buckingham, Doolittle, & Burroughs, LLP (“BDB”) is currently featuring works by Columbus artist Jim Glover in the lobby on the 3rd floor of 191 West Nationwide Boulevard, Columbus. The design of the law firm’s office, which is in the Arena District, includes space that enables BDB to exhibit the work of local artists on a regular basis. Mr. Glover’s art will be on display through the end of February.

Jim Glover’s working career began as an intern illustrator with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and after college (Kent State and Ohio State Universities with majors in art and zoology), he was hired full time. Designing displays for the Ohio State Fair, developing brochures, maps and trail guides, countless certificates—all were part of the daily work load. But when the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves asked Jim to help come up with posters promoting tax check off funds to set aside valuable native habitats, they truly motivated this artist. His love for the outdoors, and birds in particular, came forth and Jim made his reputation as a wildlife artist. Special projects with NOAA, EPA, Ranger Rick, environmental groups, and park districts followed. Thirty-three years later, he’s begun his “second career” as a painter of landscapes, buildings, the occasional critter, and anything else he finds outdoors as subject matter.

Years of painting like a technician, assimilating various reference materials to make a painting look exactly like specific plants or animals, left Jim little room for personal expression. After dabbling in outdoor, or plein air, painting for years, in 2005, Jim switched to oils and began to emulate the Impressionists. Producing a looser, more relaxed-style picture while remaining true to his accurate nature art background has been a rewarding and satisfying experience for Jim. “I feel like these new paintings are more alive, as if there is a part of me in each one!”

Jim and his wife Ellen live in Ohio, with their four children and five grandchildren not far away.
