In a February 9 article on Ewire.com titled, "BBI International Partners with the EERC as the Signature Sponsor for Upcoming Biomass '07 Workshop," Jon Norling was mentioned as a speaker at the upcoming Biomass '07: Power, Fuels, and Chemicals Workshop, to be held May 15-16.

The Energy and Environmental Research Center's ("EERC") workshop will explore the economic production of power, transportation fuels, and chemical feedstocks from biomass. As one of the presenters at the workshop, Jon will discuss how to make biomass projects profitable.

King & Spalding’s Richard Shackelford Named to Outstanding Healthcare Litigators List
Richard Shackelford, a partner in King & Spalding’s Healthcare practice, has been named an "outstanding healthcare litigator" in the January 2007 edition of Nightingale’s Healthcare News. Shackelford was praised for his role in the defense of 10 different class actions in Georgia and West Virginia against nonprofit hospitals and for his participation in the national coordination of defense counsel for similar cases filed across the country. His representation of a large Florida-based HMO in coordination of statewide litigation involving claims by hospitals for emergency services was also noted.

Mr. Shackelford represents large health systems, health plans, home health agencies, long term care facilities, physician organizations, and managed care organizations in a wide variety of litigation and regulatory matters. He has been involved in numerous complex commercial litigation matters for healthcare clients, including consumer class actions against health plans and provider entities and complex managed care disputes. He regularly represents healthcare clients in the defense of False Claims Act actions and government investigations. He also regularly advises healthcare clients on Federal and State regulatory issues, including compliance, fraud and abuse, reimbursement and certificate of need.

Kenyon & Kenyon Partner Gary Morris Among Thought Leaders at the RSA Conference 2007
Kenyon & Kenyon LLP partner Gary Morris has been selected as one of few law firm speakers to participate in the world’s leading information security event, the RSA Conference 2007.

The conference, which is being held this week at the Moscone Center in San Fransico, offers more than 220 sessions with renowned experts and speakers from companies such as Adobe Systems, Aladdin Knowledge Systems, EMC, Finjan Software, IBM, Intel, McAfee, Nokia, SAP and VeriSign.

The RSA Conference brings together top decision-makers from major markets, including consumer, computer networking, telecommunications, financial, government, education and the media. The conference was developed 16 years ago as a forum for cryptographers to gather and share the latest knowledge and advancements in the area of information security.

Mr. Morris will be speaking on the panel, "InfoSec in the 21st Century - National Concerns Confront Global Issues", on Friday, February 9. Every year, RSA attracts thousands of panel proposals. Mr. Morris’s proposal was selected from over 2,200 submissions.

Gary S. Morris has over 20 years of experience in the field of information technology, including computer and network security, cryptography and telecommunications. His legal expertise encompasses both intellectual property law and European competition law. He has been retained by the European Commission as an expert on digital rights management patents and advised major consumer electronics manufacturers, software companies, information services companies and media businesses on a wide range of patent, copyright and trademark issues. Mr. Morris has helped negotiate and draft patent, copyright and trademark licenses, computer game development contracts, End User License Agreements, Privacy Policies and terms of use agreements. He has also counseled clients with regard to open source software and other technology-related copyright issues. Clausen Miller P.C. Receives Chinese License
Clausen Miller is proud to announce that it has recently received its license for its representative office in China. Located in Shanghai, one of Asia's largest and fastest growing financial centers, Clausen Miller's office is run by J. Ryan Hemingway. Mr. Hemingway has lived in Asia for the past year and speaks Mandarin. The firm's Shanghai office runs Clausen Miller's Asia Practice, which involves working with clients in Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and many other parts of Mainland China. Dominick W. Savaiano is the US and European coordinator for the Asia Practice.

Clausen Miller's primary business mission in Asia is to represent clients in that area of the world with exposures, problems and legal needs arising out of commercial interests and liability exposures in North America and Europe. Mr. Hemingway has already made many contacts in each of the regions encompassed in the Asia Initiative, and the firm is handling significant matters in the United States, protecting the rights of our Asian clients.

Clark Hill attorney Barbara A. Ruga will present at the 2007 Michigan Negotiators Association Mini Conference on February 13 for Cheboygan, Otsego and Presque Isle Counties. The topics Ruga will cover include “Employee Evaluations: Teachers and Support Staff,” and “Employee Discipline: Progressive and Last Chance and More.”

The mini conference is part of a series, with additional presentations taking place on January 23 in Kent County, February 6 in Genesee County, February 15 in Macomb County and February 27 in Ingham County. The program series is designed for board members, supervisors, chief negotiators, principals, and all administrators whose job it is to supervise, evaluate or discipline employees. The cost to attend is $20 for MNA Members and $30 for nonmembers. Ruga has been practicing law for nearly 30 years in the areas of education, labor relations and employment law. She predominantly represents public school districts in a wide range of employment and school law matters, and frequently lectures to public school districts on employment matters.

Ruga has published several books and articles in the field of employment law, including articles in the Michigan Council of School Attorneys Newsletter. She was the co-editor and author of “Michigan Wrongful Discharge and Employment Discrimination,” (ICLE, 1990-1994) and “Wrongful Discharge Cases in Michigan,” (1984 and 1987 editions).

Ruga has been active locally on bar association committees, professional, charitable and local governmental projects.

Ruga earned her J.D. and B.A., cum laude, from the University of Michigan.

Weil Gotshal Partner Conrad Bahlke to Receive the National Public Service Award
Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP partner Conrad Bahlke is being honored by the Pro Bono Committee of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section with its National Public Service Award. The award is presented to an attorney who has demonstrated dedication to the innovative development and delivery of pro bono legal services to the poor in a business context.

Mr. Bahlke is being recognized for his work with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) regarding famine relief in Ethiopia. Mr. Bahlke, along with a team of lawyers from three Weil Gotshal offices, represented the WFP in the world’s first weather derivative transaction for humanitarian emergencies, thus crafting a means of transferring humanitarian risk to the financial markets.
