Sedgwick Partner Assumes Presidency of The Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel
Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold announced that Dallas Partner Wayne B. Mason assumed the role as president of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) for the 2007-2008 term. In this role, Mason will serve as a member of the board of directors for both the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the Lawyers for Civil Justice (LCJ). Founded in 1936, the FDCC is an international organization composed of 1,400 attorneys who specialize in civil litigation defense, general counsel, risk managers and insurance claims executives.

As president, Mason plans to maintain the FDCC's level of excellence by implementing two key initiatives. "First, I want to create a Federation Leadership Institute to provide leadership training to top law firm attorneys and corporate in-house counsel," explained Mason. "The program will provide a total package of leadership including how to lead from a firm, organization, and community perspective."

The second initiative is the creation of a white paper to discuss practical solutions for training trial lawyers. "Many consider the lack of young lawyers' trial experience as an irresolvable conundrum," said Mason. "I want to study this issue - in partnership with corporate America."

Mason has spent over 20 years defending national and international clients in diverse litigation matters in the U.S. and abroad. His straightforward approach has built successful client relationships. He has significant experience in class action litigation and other complex litigation matters, and defends many commercial catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Mason obtained his B.S., cum laude, from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and earned his J.D. from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law IN Birmingham, Alabama.

Sedgwick Attorney Elected President of the Los Angeles County Developmental Services Foundation
Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP announced that Los Angeles Special Counsel Gary Pancer was elected president of the Los Angeles County Developmental Services Foundation, also known as the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center (Lanterman). Lanterman provides services for more than 6,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities in the Los Angeles area. Established in 1966, it was renamed in the 1970s after Assembly Member Frank D. Lanterman, who helped to pass landmark legislation for individuals with developmental disabilities in California. Today Lanterman has an annual budget of over $100 million, and is one of several regional centers that constitutes over $3 billion of the state budget.

"I am honored to serve an organization that empowers those with developmental disabilities, and will do everything I can to help our participants achieve full, active and independent lives," said Pancer, who has been involved with the organization since 2004 and most recently served on the board as treasurer.

"Gary Pancer's work with Lanterman exemplifies the commitment to community that Sedgwick encourages in its attorneys," said Los Angeles office Managing Partner, Michael Davisson. "In addition to Gary's leadership and compassion, Lanterman's participants will also benefit from his professional expertise in healthcare litigation, and his ability to offer vital information on the latest trends and issues in the healthcare field."

Pancer concentrates his practice on healthcare, general, and civil litigation. He has extensive experience representing healthcare service plans, physicians and other healthcare clients in complex business litigation and consumer disputes. He also represents clients in administrative proceedings before the Department of Managed Health Care, the Medical and Dental Boards of California, U.S. Department of Labor and other state and federal agencies. He earned his J.D. from the Southwestern University School of Law, and his B.A., cum laude, from California State University, Northridge.
