Luce Forward Strengthens Intellectual Property Practice With Addition of Michael J. DeHaemer Jr.
Attorney Michael J. DeHaemer Jr. has joined Luce Forward's Intellectual Property practice area as an Associate in the firm's Carmel Valley / Del Mar office.

DeHaemer specializes in the preparation and procurement of patents, particularly related to computer, software, electronic products, medical devices, automotive technologies, display devices, audio and video processing, communications, data storage, wireless networking and IC circuitry and fabrication. Throughout his legal career, DeHaemer has procured over 100 U.S. patents and numerous foreign patents. DeHaemer's practice also includes work in validity and infringement matters, in addition to trademark, copyright and transaction work.

DeHaemer, who recently relocated to San Diego from Arlington, Texas, was previously a Staff Attorney with Sidley Austin. In addition to being a member of the State Bars of California and Texas, DeHaemer is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

DeHaemer was previously a United States Navy Submarine Officer. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University, a Master of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Young Conaway Files Chapter 11 Petition on Behalf of Medifacts International, Inc.
Young Conaway, acting as lead counsel, filed a voluntary chapter 11 petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on behalf of Medifacts International, Inc. Medifacts is a worldwide provider of clinical trial services to pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies that are developing therapeutic drugs and products.
Michael R. Nestor, Joseph A. Malfitano, and Donald J. Bowman, Jr.are handling the matter for Young Conaway.

Wyrick Robbins advised Special Committee to Board of Winston Hotels in proposed acquisition by Wilbur Acquisition Holding Company
Winston Hotels, Inc., a real estate investment trust and owner of premium limited-service, upscale extended-stay and full-service hotels, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement and plan of merger with Wilbur Acquisition Holding Company, LLC.

Wyrick Robbins served as counsel to the special committee of Winston Hotel's board of directors.

Wolf Haldenstein Announces Settlement of Continental Airlines Certificateholders Litigation
Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP is class counsel in a class action lawsuit pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of current and former holders of Continental Airlines, Inc. (“Continental”) First Priority Secured Equipment Certificates (“Certificates”) who held at any time from December 3, 1990 to the present (the “Class Period”), against defendants First Fidelity Bank, N.A., New Jersey; Midlantic National Bank; NationsBank of Tennessee, N.A. (now known as Bank of America by merger); and Constellation Bank.

On January 26, 2007, the court entered an order preliminarily approving a settlement of the action. Pursuant to that order, a hearing will take place on May 4, 2007, at 11:30 am, before the Honorable Denise Cote, United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Room 11B, United States District Courthouse, 500 Pearl Street, New York, New York 10007, for the purpose of determining whether: (1) the Court should approve the proposed settlement of the above-captioned class action for $7,400,000, plus any interest that may accrue thereon as fair, reasonable, and adequate; and (2) the Court should dismiss the action with prejudice, as set forth in the Stipulation and Agreement of Compromise and Settlement (the “Stipulation”), dated December 4, 2006, and approve releases of the claims asserted.

If you held Continental Certificates at any time between December 3, 1990 and the present, your rights may be affected by this action and the proposed settlement thereof. LORRAINE POWER THARP APPOINTED TO STATE BAR SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON CIVIL RIGHTS
Lorraine Power Tharp, a partner in the Albany law firm of Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP and past president of the New York State Bar Association, has been appointed to the Bar Association’s Special Committee on the Civil Rights Agenda.


This 23 member blue-ribbon panel of leading public officials, bar leaders and practitioners was established late last year to develop realizable goals in the continuing effort to break down racial barriers, increase racial diversity in the legal system and the legal profession, and advance the cause of civil rights. It is chaired by former New York State Court of Appeals Associate Judge, George Bundy Smith.


“It is an honor to be a member of a panel committed to challenging the legal profession to take a leadership position in the ongoing effort to advance the legal profession’s civil rights agenda,” said Ms. Power Tharp. “Attorneys have played a key role in promoting the cause of civil rights and breaking down racial barriers so it is a natural outgrowth of this to continue to examine our position and strengthen it.”


A resident of Saratoga Springs, Ms. Power Tharp chairs the commercial real estate practice group of Whiteman Osterman & Hanna. She served as president of the New York State Bar Association during 2002-2003, is past chair of the City of Saratoga Springs Planning Board and currently chairs the New York Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund Board. She is also a member of the board of directors of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a member of the board of trustees of Saratoga Care Inc., and a commissioner of the New York State Racing Commission.
