MBHB Announces Increase in First-Year Associate Salaries
The intellectual property law firm McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP voted this month to raise the base salary for its first-year associates. Effective January 1, 2007, first-year associates at the firm will receive an annual salary of $150,000, an increase from $135,000 in 2006. Salaries for attorneys in other classes are also being adjusted.

In deciding to raise salaries, the firm considered but rejected the concept of making any corresponding increases to its client billing rates.

"MBHB continues to thrive and this is due in no small part to the high level of legal and technical skills of our associates," said Matthew J. Sampson, the firm's managing partner. "We recognize that we must compete with other firms for this caliber of talent. Our salaries reflect our commitment to continue to attract and retain attorneys with the level of skill, professionalism, and client service that our clients have come to expect.
