Calgary Construction Law Group Adds New Partner, E. Jane Sidnell
FMC is pleased to announce the addition E. Jane Sidnell on March 1, 2007 as partner, underscoring the strength and depth of the Calgary Construction Law team. New COO Orest Szot to Strategically Optimize Operations Across National Firm
Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Orest Szot to its executive leadership team as Chief Operating Officer. In streamlining the national direction of the firm’s operations, finance, IT and marketing platforms, FMC continues to leverage its strength as a borderless national business law firm.

With more than 20 years of experience in client service and operations for global professional service firms, Orest is ideally suited to meet this mandate. As CFO for Canada and subsequently North America, he recently directed all financial management activities for Ipsos Reid Corporation and was instrumental in various team acquisition and integration initiatives. Prior to this, he fulfilled progressive consulting and management roles at KPMG, leading to his position as Director, Finance and Administration, where he oversaw forecasting and strategic planning for its office services group.

Orest’s achievements to date provide a solid foundation for him to implement processes that will realign FMC’s national resources and deliver on its strategic objectives – to lead its clients to success.

Farella Braun + Martel Partner Bruce Maximov Named President of Association for Corporate Growth Chapter
Bruce Maximov, partner at Farella Braun + Martel, has been named president of the San Francisco Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG San Francisco). Formerly the Chapter secretary, Maximov, a member of the Farella Braun + Martel's Business Transactions group, is a long-time member of the ACG.

"I am honored to assume the leadership role for an organization with such an active presence in San Francisco and one that offers valuable insight into the ever-changing world of business growth and development," said Maximov. "Philosophically, ACG San Francisco adheres to the same principles as Farella Braun + Martel's business transactions group - we are an extension of our clients' business teams, providing an array of transactional approaches and opportunities to help them achieve their goals."

Maximov's practice focuses on the corporate, securities, financing and operational needs of early stage and maturing companies, with a particular emphasis on technology and real estate. He advises entrepreneurs in a range of industries, including high technology, product innovation, hotel and restaurant, wine, and commercial and residential real estate development on business formation and operation. His securities experience has involved SEC registered public offerings and exempt private placements on behalf of companies and investors. Maximov also has extensive merger and acquisitions experience.

Maximov received a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley (1975) and a B.A., with distinction, from Stanford University (1969).

Crowell & Moring’s Intellectual Property Litigation Team Gains Experienced Trial Lawyer
Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of partner Kathryn L. Clune to the firm’s Litigation Group and Intellectual Property Group in Washington, D.C. Clune brings 14 years of litigation experience to clients with patent infringement concerns spanning a wide variety of technology industries including electrical, mechanical, and software. She joins the firm from Greenberg Traurig.

“Katie is the perfect complement to our intellectual property litigation team. Having tried cases from voir dire to verdict for more than 14 years, she is a versatile litigator and an experienced appellate advocate,” said Richard McMillan, Jr., who spearheads Crowell & Moring's intellectual property litigation practice.

In private practice, Clune has been lead counsel on patent infringement cases tried in federal district court (both bench and jury trials) and on so-called "Section 337" cases tried before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). She has handled other types of cases ranging from a class action involving fraudulent billing and RICO claims to an action against the Republic of Iran under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Clune also has significant experience in litigation risk management counseling. In the course of her litigation work, Clune has argued numerous cases in federal appellate courts, resulting in 15 published opinions.

"Crowell & Moring offers my clients a unique combination of skilled litigators, a prestigious patent prosecution team, and internationally recognized trade attorneys. I am thrilled to be part of a team that is as diverse and multidisciplinary as it is deep," said Clune.

Clune, a former U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander, gained extensive trial experience dating back to her days in the Judge Advocate General's Corps, where she successfully defended a Marine aviator in the internationally-publicized so-called “Aviano” case, which involved a General Court Martial on 20 counts of involuntary manslaughter arising from an accident with a gondola cable in Northern Italy. She was also the law clerk to Honorable Andrew S. Effron, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and received her J.D from Albany Law School, cum laude.

Armstrong Teasdale Elects New Managing Partner
Effective as of March 1, 2007, Michael A. Chivell is managing partner of Armstrong Teasdale LLP, after an election by the firm’s partners. He succeeds Richard B. Scherrer who announced to the firm last fall his intention to not seek election to a fourth term as managing partner in 2007. Scherrer served as managing partner for the past nine years and intends to return to the full-time practice of law to concentrate on his litigation practice. During his tenure, Armstrong Teasdale experienced considerable growth, expanding from offices in St. Louis, Kansas City, Jefferson City, Washington D.C. and Shanghai, China, to additional offices in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, and San Francisco, California. Chivell is a transactional attorney who concentrates his practice in corporate and real estate services. Chivell succeeds Scherrer after serving the firm in a variety of managerial capacities and most recently as chair of the firm’s Business Services Department.

Alzheimer's Association Honors Johnson With Leadership of the Year Award
Each year the Alzheimer's Association, St. Louis Chapter, honors those who have shown an outstanding commitment to expanding care and services for people with dementia with the Leadership of the Year Award. This year Armstrong Teadale attorney and Missouri House Rep. Connie Johnson, D-St. Louis, is one of the honorees.

Representative Johnson earned the Leadership of the Year Award because of her ongoing support with Memory Day, the Alzheimer's Association’s advocacy event, and her help with increasing visibility of Alzheimer’s disease in the state legislature.

The Alzheimer's Association will present Rep. Johnson with the award on Tuesday, March 13th during the Memory Day ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda. She and two other recipients will be honored at a reception in the statehouse later that day. The Alzheimer's Association, St. Louis Chapter, sincerely thanks Rep. Johnson for her tireless efforts and leadership support on behalf of individuals with Alzheimer’s and their families.

Rep. Johnson is a member of Armstrong Teasdale's Litigation Department and focuses her practice in the area of complex tort litigation.

The Alzheimer’s Association, St. Louis Chapter, serves 38 counties in eastern Missouri and western Illinois, offering numerous programs for those dealing with the many stages and issues of the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association’s mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
