R. Max Crane - Why Integration Success Eludes Many Buyers: Lack of communication, weak leadership, and indecisiveness are the usual culprits in sabotaging post-closing effects
Max Crane is quoted in this inciteful article disussing the many obstacles facing merger integration. Crane stated: there is "a real human nature aspect to this...Companies are finding it hard to grow organically. They feel as though they're failing anyway and decide that they may as well throw a Hail Mary Pass rather than stay the course." He also added there is pressure because "everyone else is doing it...CEOs view an acquisition as something that at least shows intiative, creates a perception of action, and buys them time. They can make an acquisition and get a grace peiod of a couple years while they plead integration issues.

Former Superior Court Judge M. Allan Vogelson Joins Parker McCay
Regional law firm Parker McCay announced today that the Honorable M. Allan Vogelson, former Presiding Judge, Superior Court of New Jersey, Camden County, has joined the firm as of counsel.

Judge Vogelson served as a presiding judge for the Camden County Superior Court for more than 12 years until his recent retirement from the bench. He served as presiding judge of the Camden County Superior Court’s Civil Division for eight years, and was subsequently appointed as presiding judge of that Court’s Chancery Division, and served in that capacity until his retirement. Prior to his appointment as presiding judge, he served as a judge for Camden County’s family and criminal divisions.

“Judge Vogelson enjoyed a distinguished career during his 16-year tenure with the Superior Court, and prior,” remarked Stephen J. Mushinski, administrative shareholder and chief operating officer at Parker McCay. “We are honored to have such a dignified man of integrity join us. We look forward to the benefit his knowledge and expertise will bring to the firm and our attorneys,” stated Mushinski.

Drawing on his substantial experience as both a trial lawyer and a judge, Judge Vogelson will focus his practice on alternative dispute resolution and complex litigation.

Judge Vogelson received his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law - Camden, and his bachelor's degree from Temple University. He was in private practice in Camden and Haddonfield, N.J. from 1965 to 1991. He served as solicitor or counsel to numerous public entities during that time, and held various government posts, including serving as a member of the New Jersey State Legislative Reapportionment Committee, director on the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and a member of the Camden County College Board of Trustees.

Judge Vogelson is admitted to the New Jersey bar, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the U.S. Court of Claims. He is a member of the Camden County Bar Association. He is a resident of Cherry Hill, N.J.

Orrick Represents Princo Corp. in Ongoing Patent Case
Orrick is identified as Princo Corp.’s counsel in this article about an appeals court decision that has stayed New York federal court litigation and vacated its order granting Philips' motion for summary judgment against allegations that it illegally tied patents to CD-ROM technology licenses.

Philips alleges that Princo has infringed on six of its patents, and Princo argues that Philips wrongfully tied licenses to these six patents. The Federal Circuit ruled on Thursday for the third time in this discrepancy, which dates back to 1997 and has disseminated through the legal system for the last five years.

Orrick Lawyer Comments on Chinese Legislation
Beijing IP partner Xiang Wang, who joined the firm in February, is quoted in an article about two Chinese bills on corporate taxes and property rights and lagging legal reforms in China. It has taken years to reach a consensus over these laws that will go before the National People's Congress for final approval beginning next week.

"If a bill would create instability or is too contentious, it will not be put on the agenda," said Wang. "The pace of legislative reforms will be determined by how they promote stability.

Veteran Business Litigator George J. Stephan Joins Luce Forward's Expanding Los Angeles Office
George J. Stephan, a highly accomplished business litigation attorney, has joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP's growing Los Angeles office, effective March 1.

Stephan, who joins as a Partner in the firm's Business / Complex Litigation Practice Group, specializes in business litigation, employment law, products liability, commercial and residential real estate disputes and general civil litigation matters. He is best known in Southern California for his successful work as lead counsel on behalf of Angels Baseball LP in its legal battle with the city of Anaheim over the 2005 change in the baseball's team name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
