New Partner Joins Bryan Cave LLP’s Intellectual Property Group
The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP is pleased to announce that J. Bennett Clark has joined the firm as a partner in its St. Louis office. Clark is a well-known, nationally recognized intellectual property litigator. He joins Bryan Cave from a St. Louis intellectual property boutique where he served as the chair of the litigation practice group for more than 15 years. He will join Bryan Cave’s Intellectual Property and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups.

“Ben will help Bryan Cave realize its goal of expanding the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice,” said Don Lents, chairman of Bryan Cave. “With his strong commitment and dedication to his practice, Ben will be instrumental in further developing the firm’s reputation as one of the nation’s strongest intellectual property litigation firms.”

Clark has handled dozens of complex litigation matters in federal courts for more than 25 years. He is a first-chair trial lawyer who handles all types of intellectual property disputes including, for example, patent infringement, trademark infringement, copyright infringement and trade secret disputes. Additionally, Clark has a substantial amount of experience handling white collar criminal matters, internal corporate investigations, business torts, antitrust and other commercial litigation.

“Ben is an outstanding litigator and addition to our firm,” said David Roodman, co-chair of Bryan Cave’s Intellectual Property Group. “I have handled numerous cases against Ben over the last 15 years, and have always been impressed by his knowledge, creativity and courtroom skills. Ben is an excellent lawyer and an outstanding strategic fit to our growing Intellectual Property Litigation Practice.”

In March 2002, Clark was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, an honor held by less than 1 percent of practicing attorneys. He is also a certified federal court mediator and early neutral evaluator. Clark has been on the faculty, as a lecturer and instructor, of the University of Virginia Trial Advocacy Institute.

A former assistant U.S. attorney, Clark received his J.D. in 1980 from the University of Virginia and his B.A., cum laude, in 1976 from Duke University.

Managing Intellectual Property Names Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Among Top Trademark and Copyright Firms
Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., has ranked among the top trademark and copyright firms in the United States in Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) magazine’s annual survey, in both the prosecution and litigation categories.

The survey, which was published in the March 2007 issue of MIP, ranks Brinks among the top 10 firms in trademark and copyright prosecution and among the top 21 firms in trademark and copyright litigation. According to the magazine, the survey is “a qualitative ranking of leading firms based on extensive feedback from their peers” and not a ranking based on firm size or the number of cases filed.

The MIP survey of the world IP market, now in its 11th year of publication, is based on extensive research and interviews with practitioners worldwide. Based on their findings, the publication ranks firms in the U.S. and 64 other geographic jurisdictions. According to the survey, prosecution work includes filing of trademarks and related work and contentious or litigation includes all other legal work such as enforcement and licensing. The rankings reflect the state of the market between September 2006 and January 2007.

Managing Intellectual Property is part of the Euromoney Legal Media Group, with offices in London, Hong Kong and New York. It is now firmly established as the leading international magazine for IP owners with more than 8,000 readers across the globe and covering all aspects of IP practice worldwide. About three-quarters of the readers are senior in-house counsel in multinational companies.
