Kristin Pace, William Adams Named To Head Practice Groups at Fitzgerald Abbott & Beardsley LLP
Fitzgerald Abbott & Beardsley LLP, a multi-practice law firm providing practical and effective legal and business solutions for clients in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationally, announced today it has named two partners to head growing practice groups: Kristin A. Pace, as Chair of the Tax Practice Group, and William E. “Bill” Adams, as Chair of the Litigation Practice Group.

Ms. Pace is a partner and a member of the firm's Business and Corporate Transactions and Estates and Trusts Groups, in addition to being named to head the Tax Practice Group. She focuses her practice on taxation as well as estate planning and estate and trust administration. Ms. Pace advises clients in sophisticated estate planning matters on strategies for minimizing estate and gift tax liabilities. She assists clients with formation of entities including corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, business trusts and family limited partnerships. Ms. Pace advises family-owned businesses on business succession planning strategies and provides wealth transfer planning services for high net worth families and individuals. She represents business and individual clients before the Internal Revenue Service, Franchise Tax Board, State Board of Equalization and other taxing authorities. Ms. Pace also handles a wide variety of probate and trust administration matters. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Golden Gate University School of Law, where she has taught in the LL.M. Tax Program since 1996.

Mr. Adams is a partner specializing in real estate, commercial, construction and insurance litigation in addition to being named chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Adams represents individual and corporate clients in state and federal court proceedings, binding and non-binding arbitration and mediation in matters involving breach of contract, fraud, statutory violations, business torts and inverse condemnation. He has also litigated partnership disputes, environmental claims, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, partition, unlawful detainer and judgment enforcement proceedings. He also serves as a judge pro tem for Santa Clara Superior Court and an arbitrator for Alameda Superior Court.

Mary Rust Elected to Board of Trustees of Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council
Mary Rust, a partner in the Tax, Probate, and Estate Planning Department of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP, recently was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council.

Rust, a resident of Anderson Township, focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, charitable giving and estate administration. She is a member of the Trusts, Wills and Estates Section of the Cincinnati Bar Association, as well as a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council, and the Northern Kentucky Estate Planning Council, and serves as chair of the Development Committee for the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Rust graduated from Miami University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she was a member of the tax team of the Moot Court Board. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Rust was Assistant Trust Counsel at Fifth Third Bank. Ms. Rust is also a member of the firm’s Professional Women’s Resource Group (PWRG).

Katten Muchin Rosenman Continues to Expand Financial Services Practice with Addition of the Former General Counsel of NYSE Arca
"Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that Janet Angstadt, former General Counsel of NYSE Arca Inc., the New York Stock Exchange’s all electronic exchange for trading equities and options (formerly Archipelago), has joined the Firm as a partner in its Financial Services Practice. Ms. Angstadt will be based in the Firm’s Chicago office.

As General Counsel of NYSE Arca, Ms. Angstadt, 44, worked extensively on market structure and regulatory compliance issues, as well as managing the company’s membership and registrations department. Prior to the merger of NYSE and Archipelago, she served as the Deputy General Counsel of Archipelago, where she played an integral role in formulating and implementing the company’s regulatory and legal policies, as well as managing the compliance programs of four affiliated broker-dealers.
“Janet brings extensive, hands-on regulatory experience, as well as an exceptional background in market structure issues and initiatives to our group,” said Arthur W. Hahn, national chair of Katten’s Financial Services Practice. “Our clients are exchanges, clearing organizations, broker-dealers and international banks, and Janet’s experience will be enormously valuable to them as they continue to fundamentally redesign the markets.”

Prior to joining Archipelago, Ms. Angstadt was legal counsel to the capital markets group of EVEREN Securities Inc. As a senior associate at Schiff Hardin & Waite, she also represented exchange markets and broker-dealers. Ms. Angstadt previously spent four years as senior counsel for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Market Regulation.

She received her B.A. from St. Olaf College and her J.D. from DePaul University.

The Daily Record Names Nelson Mann a Legal Leader
Stinson Morrison Hecker attorney T. Nelson Mann was recognized as recipient of the Daily Record’s Legal Leaders of the Year for his legal accomplishments and dedication to the Kansas City community. A panel composed of members from the Kansas City legal community selected this year’s list of ten honorees.

Mann’s legal practice centers around technology transfers, public/private partnerships and capital formation. He served as the 2005 Chairman of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. As a volunteer, Mann has served on boards and in leadership positions with the University of Medicine and Bioscience, Reach Foundation, Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City, Kansas City Area Development Council, the Kansas City Symphony and Lyric Opera, and as a trustee on the Johnson County Community College Board.

Potter Anderson Increases Associate Salaries
Potter Anderson & Corroon is raising first-year associate salaries to $145,000, up from $135,000, and is raising all other associates' salaries across the board as well.

Nemeth Featured Speaker in State Bar Program
Varnum attorney Eric M. Nemeth will be a featured speaker in an upcoming seminar on IRS Enforcement, sponsored by the Business Entities Committee of the State Bar of Michigan Taxation Section.

Nemeth, who has focused his 18-year legal career on tax matters, concentrates in particular on civil and criminal tax matters and white collar criminal litigation. His professional career includes serving as Senior Trial Attorney for the District Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service and as Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Nemeth has been active in the State Bar of Michigan Taxation Section since 1995 and recently served as chair. He is also active in the Federal Bar Association Tax Section and served as chair from 1997 - 2001. He is an author and frequent presenter on tax matters.

The upcoming seminar will be held Wednesday March 7, 2007 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Edward Rose and Sons in Farmington Hills, MI.
