Robinson & Cole Health Care Lawyer Named to UCONN Health Care Management Advisory Board
R&C Health Care Lawyer Tracey E. Scraba was recently named to the UCONN Health Care Management Advisory Board. This Board is comprised of senior health care leaders representing the many sectors of the health care industry. Board members serve in an advisory capacity with respect to academic programs, research initiatives, and outreach activities. Board members may also serve as mentors for students participating in the program.

O’MELVENY & MYERS REPRESENTS INVESTOR CONSORTIUM IN $27.6M FINANCING OF MERU NETWORKS
O'Melveny & Myers LLP recently represented a consortium of investors in the $27.6 million Series D financing of the Sunnyvale, CA-based WiFi company Meru Networks. The investors of the financing included D.E. Shaw Group, BlueStream Ventures, Clearstone Venture Partners, Evercore Ventures, JumpStartUp Ventures, Lehman Brothers Venture Partners, and NeoCarta Ventures.

The O'Melveny & Myers legal team that assisted with this transaction included Silicon Valley’s Warren Lazarow, Brian Covotta, and Sofia Lou. Silicon Valley's Brian Berliner assisted on intellectual property matters.

Fulbright Partner Receives Outstanding Health Care Transaction Lawyer Award
Stacey Murphy, partner in the Fulbright St. Louis office, has been named to receive the 2006 Outstanding Health Care Transaction Lawyer Award during the Healthcare Transactions Conference, April 19-20, 2007, in Chicago.

The awards will be presented by Nightingale's Healthcare News.

Stacey Murphy practices exclusively for Fulbright’s health care practice. She represents hospitals, multi-specialty and single specialty physician groups, post-acute care providers and other health care entities. Her experience includes mergers and acquisitions, affiliations and other complex contractual arrangements among health care providers.

Roche Suit Over Diabetes Test Strips Crumbles
French drug maker Roche Holdings Ltd.’s patent infringement lawsuit over diabetes-test devices has effectively unraveled after a summary judgment ruling in favor of U.S. rival Home Diagnostics Inc. Roche claimed Finnegan Henderson client Home Diagnostics was illegally challenging its own version of the technology, blood glucose meters and test strips sold under the Accu-Chek brand. For the time being, Judge Larry McKinney’s ruling clears Home Diagnostics’ testing products for diabetics, including its TrueTrack Smart System and TrackEase Smart System.

Jalana Commerford Joins Fennemore Craig’s Phoenix Office
Jalana Commerford has joined Fennemore Craig’s Phoenix office as a litigation associate.

Commerford, a 2000 graduate of the Arizona State University College of Law, will practice primarily in the area of construction defect litigation.

Prior to joining Fennemore Craig, Commerford worked as a construction defect litigation
associate at Levin & Stein in Phoenix. She also served as an associate at Bell O’Connor & Campbell, P.C. in Phoenix, and as a contract attorney for Tiffany & Bosco, P.A., also in Phoenix.

Commerford is a member of the Arizona State Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, and the Maricopa County Bar Association.

DAVIS WRIGHT TREMAINE NAMES NEW BUSINESS/CORPORATE FINANCE PRACTICE GROUP CHAIR
The law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP (DWT) has named Joseph D. Weinstein to chair the firm’s business and corporate finance law practice group. Weinstein will oversee the business development and marketing efforts for this group of over 50 attorneys based in nine offices throughout the U.S.

Weinstein has over 25 years of legal experience in corporate transactional matters, with a focus in complex multi-state and multinational transactions. Some of his more prominent transactional work includes representing owners in the sales of the Vancouver Grizzlies NBA franchise to an investment group in Missouri, a multi-state sale of a food company’s seafood division, facilitation of the sale of 25 Boeing airplanes on behalf of a Japanese leasing company, and the purchase and financing of several major fish processing companies. Weinstein’s many representative clients include John E. McCaw, Jr., Canadian Hotel Income Properties, Tyson Foods, Inc. and Services Group of America.

Weinstein’s many recent accolades include being listed for the past four consecutive years as one of “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business” by Chambers USA; as one of “The Best Lawyers in America” published by Woodward/White; and as a “Super Lawyer” in Washington Law & Politics annually since 2000. In addition, Weinstein was also recently listed as among the 155 “Top Lawyers” in Seattle magazine.

Weinstein joined DWT in 1986, and became a partner of the firm in 1991. He received his law degree with high honors from the University of Washington in 1981, and received his B.A. cum laude in political science – also from the University of Washington – in 1978. He is licensed to practice law in Washington state. Weinstein’s professional affiliations include membership of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and serving on the board of trustees for the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
