Dorsey & Whitney Expands Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice
The law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced that Michael E. Foreman and Eric Lopez Schnabel, lawyers with more than 30 years of combined experience, have joined the firm as partners in its Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice Group. Foreman extends the firm’s restructuring and bankruptcy capabilities to Dorsey’s New York office, and Schnabel joins the Wilmington, Delaware office.

Foreman and Schnabel join Dorsey’s 20-lawyer Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy practice, which offers a full range of services, including pre-bankruptcy planning, corporate restructurings, workouts and refinancings of corporate debt, debtor-creditor litigation, acquisitions of assets from financially distressed entities, and reorganizations and liquidations in and outside of bankruptcy.

Prior to joining Dorsey, Foreman was a partner in the Bankruptcy and Reorganization Practice Group at Proskauer Rose LLP for more than 20 years. He focuses on representing lenders, investors and companies in complex debt restructurings and distressed transactions, both in and out of court. “I was attracted by the breadth and depth of Dorsey’s rapidly expanding bankruptcy practice, Dorsey's leadership positions in finance, M&A and complex litigation, and the collegiality of the partners,” said Foreman.

Schnabel joins Dorsey from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, PC in Wilmington, Delaware, where he was a shareholder. He focuses on financial restructuring and insolvency matters, including distressed transactions, bankruptcy representation of secured creditors, other significant creditors, committees and debtors, and bankruptcy litigation. “I’ve worked with Dorsey lawyers on many matters in Delaware throughout my career and I am delighted to be joining such a top restructuring team,” commented Schnabel.

Robert Dwyer, head of the Dorsey & Whitney New York office, said: “The addition of Michael and Eric is important for Dorsey because it strengthens our restructuring and bankruptcy capacity in two key markets. Michael and Eric join an already well-established national Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice Group, including lawyers with expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, securities law and litigation, who advise clients on all aspects of workouts and restructurings. These Dorsey lawyers are particularly adept at restructuring the debt of heavily leveraged entities and advising clients on purchasing assets out of bankruptcy proceedings, as well as strategies to take control of proceedings though strategic claims purchases.“

Katherine A. Constantine, chair of the Dorsey Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy practice, noted: “Michael and Eric augment Dorsey’s already comprehensive financial restructuring and bankruptcy practice by broadening our national capability in New York and Delaware — two of the most active bankruptcy courts in the United States.”
